yea.

I think bro more so enjoys the satisfaction of brazenly showing up with a dog when the folks maintain their stance of YOU BETTER NOT BRING NO DAMN DOG AROUND, then they love having the dog around anyway.

just talked to dad. He's a little more back down to earth, less an emotional mess from loosing his little brother, and more back to his usual michhawk rants about how his fave coffee shop has half the donuts they used to cuz kids these days just don't wanna work.

I asked about the guitar. He gave some cryptic response about he'll see what he can do. I think Aunt Lynn controls the purse strings, and is gonna be the administrative say about all of Uncle Don's shit. I told dad to tell her that if someone else in the fam wants it, go for it, but if it's otherwise just gonna be donated to goodwill or auctioned off in an estate sale or something, at least let me take care of it first.

Of course, having said that, and as batshit crazy as my fam is, and despite them all knowing guitar was kind of me and Uncle Don's thing, and me bugging him to bring the guitar to every family function since I was old enough to know what a power chord is, now it'll almost certainly just get thrown in the dumpster or something, and the fam will come at me all oblivious and aloof like, "but you ain't never said you was interested in Uncle Don's guitar."

Either that, or some other random aunt or cousin or something who never expressed interest previously will suddenly claim it on some entitled ass terms like, "but Don would have wanted ME to have it, not the nephew he used to bond over guitar with."

Ain't family great.

And they wonder why I don't visit more often.

if and when something else dumb happens with the guitar, I am fully prepared to just shrug it off, though, and respond simply with, "well that's fine, not gonna sweat it, but then could you at least hook me up some of Uncle Don's pills?"

anywho, is it too early to get a drink around here?

and let's put on a song for Uncle Don. He always liked David Bowie, so let's go with that.

For better or worse though, and despite what pdub says, the juke box at this place is still mostly just jazz, and jam bands.

So Uncle Don’s guitar went to another aunt. Not worried about it, as it at least stayed in the fam, rather than getting tossed in a dumpster like I feared.

The bigger issue now is my dad is all butthurt that every one of Uncle Don’s siblings and nephews and nieces got something in the will EXCEPT for my dad/us.

Well, my brother did get the remaining crop from Uncle Don’s grow room, but that was less a proper will bequeathal, and more a “you loosers made me drag his dead ass out the house so I’m taking his stash” kinda thing.

But yea, maybe it’s peculiar.

people do odd things when death is involved
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
