All of this - every last bit - comes down to the simple fact that the culture war nonsense is deeply, deeply unpopular with voters. And that makes voters, and their votes, the problem.

Personally I think everyone should be provided an ID and given a vote. But if you are too stupid to have an acquired an ID yourself, if you've lived your entire life and not acquired an ID, are you really a person thats going to submit an informed vote? Doubtful

Who is going to pay for those IDs?

Who is going to do all the research needed to verify that the person who is issued that ID is really who they say they are?

Who is going to pay for the supporting documentation required to prove who they are?

Who is going to pay to get that documentation to those issuing the ID and how will it get there?

How will those IDs be distributed? Gee, what could go wrong with millions of sets of IDs floating through the ever-reliable US mail...

Read up for a few minutes. Maybe if you attempted to a tually read what the arguments are against your points, you might be able to make a more informed decision since you're so insistent that more people make informed decisions...

Not to mention, one so afeared of the deep state would presumably find some privacy concerns with a national ID program that, by its nature, would exist to enable the federal government to track individual citizens’ voting in elections run by states/etc.
