It hasn’t been stealthily (re)designed to depend on cheap under the table labor. It has been openly designed to depend on cheap under the table labor.

There’s an easy way to solve the problem of unauthorized workers. Punishing employers. Until the CEOs of meat processing plants go to jail the problem with unauthorized workers will continue.

BTW, you reveal your utter ignorance when you use the phrase “illegal immigrant”. Are you talking about someone who entered the country illegally, entered the country legally but has overstayed their authorization to remain or is legally present but accepting employment they are not eligible to?

Maybe you’re just referring to non-white people, as a principle.
Democrats want to punish employers hiring illegals.
Republicans want to demonize the illegals.

Meanwhile there's a massive need for $10-15 an hour jobs that a lot of these people would love to have.

I say the government spends a bunch on salaries for people to process people seeking asylum. It's that rare ability for government spending to actually curb inflation.

To be clear (not speaking for “Democrats”) my call for punishing employers is only in response to those who want to punish the employees - after all the employers are breaking the EXACT same law that the employees are breaking. In fact this is a crime that, by definition, requires two people acting together.

I’m all for providing work authorization (temporarily, at least) for jobs that are in high demand. I also agree with you that we are wasting resources processing asylum seekers. However, the Republicans would lose their cudgel to demagogue and demonize immigrants.

Let’s see how many unauthorized employees will continue to be hired if employers go to jail! The immigration issue remains not because we can’t solve it; there are many people whose best interests are served by not helping solve it.

Again the both sides arguments need to just stop too. We have a crazy right wing and a bunch of enablers.

Disney should now build that complex elsewhere, just out of spite
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

My daughter almost went to join them and be an Imagineer. There’s no way she would move to Florida, especially now. Im sure there was an internal revolt.

It's a pathetic, sad comment on our society, that your daughter is being forced to take fascism into consideration when making her career choices. Think about that. Fascism, growing in our country.

She joins the ranks of tens of thousands of medical students, residents, and physicians who are suddenly forced to consider the fascism sweeping our country when deciding where they want to practice. They can either betray their oath and comply with countless purposefully vague right-wing government intrusions into their professional judgement, or base their professional life on best medical practices and risk being criminally prosecuted and going to prison, if they do.

I'm biased, but as a resident of Orlando who lived ~ 7 miles from Disney as the crow flies from '12-'19, she isn't missing much. Again, I'm biased. It's 100% possible someone else might love it. But despite making an effort, I never found the soul of Orlando. And by "soul", I mean, for instance, the ethnic, mom & pop, locally-owned businesses and restaurants you feel good about patronizing because you find something, an atmosphere or taste there you can't get anywhere else. And, because slowly over time, you get to know them because they are their business so they're pretty much always there. Instead, for the most part it's full of national chains that all aspire to come up with the lowest common denominator so they'll appeal to the broadest breadth of tourists. And t-shirt shops. Just my opinion/experience.

Orlando and its residents are not confused about who or what is laying their golden eggs. And while there are a plethora of other parks and vendors to chose from in Orlando, there is no question in anyone's mind that the guy that was willing to take a chance and risk his fortune to drain the swamps in order to build Disney World on the remote SW corner of the city, is the engine that has and in their hopes and dreams will for decades to come continue, to drive the local pro$perity engine.

IMO, that being the case, DeFascist's already gobsmackingly ignorant and unpopular gambit to build his presidential brand by out-fascisting Trump is going to create an even higher wall for him to climb after he announces his quest for the ring next week, which makes me a little more hopeful for the future.

I'm sure you're right, and this won't have any influence on the rich republican donors, i.e., business and stock owners, when they decide who to spend their money on.

Not to mention how obvious it is to everyone that Ron DeSantis knows so much better, than a phony like Bob Iger.

During Mr. Iger’s tenure, The Walt Disney Company has been recognized as one of the “Most Reputable Companies” in both America and the world by Forbes magazine (2006-2019); one of the “Best Employers” in both America and the world by Forbes magazine (2019 and 2018, respectively); one of the “World’s Most Admired Companies” by Fortune magazine (2009-2020); and as one of the “World’s Most Respected Companies” by Barron’s (2009-2017).

...Mr. Iger has been named TIME’s Businessperson of the Year (2019); one of the “World’s Most Powerful People” by Forbes magazine (2018); one of the “Top Gun CEOs” by Forbes magazine (2009); one of Fortune magazine’s “25 Most Powerful People in Business” (2006, 2007); one of the “Best CEOs” by Institutional Investor magazine (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011); MarketWatch CEO of the Year (2006); and “CEO of the Year” by Chief Executive (2014).

Everything that had made Florida cool has had concrete poured over it.

I never really cared for Florida. The fact that DeSantis was elected in the first place proves to me that I would be surrounded by mouth breathing fuck tards. I get enough of that here thanks to Randy, Dolomite and Mich.

Indeed, unfortunately. My daughter (engineer) also turned down several opportunities in other locations, in mostly Red States. The more promising ones were in Texas, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee. A few of them were with good companies. For better or worse, I couldn’t convince her that she should at least pursue them.

It wasn’t just her - many of her friends and colleagues are not pursuing opportunities in some states. It’s arguable if such actions are justified. But that’s what they are doing. It’s definitely affecting the local economies.

Btw, I can’t understand why anyone would go on vacation and want everything from home. It makes no sense. I saw Americans in the McD’s one block from Lake Como!! Ridiculous.

This would have been a big story for Central Florida regardless of the reason.

But when the corporate world is telling you that taxes and sunshine notwithstanding, your bigoted and discriminatory policies make recruiting engineers and other professionals impossible…would seem best to listen.

Traitors like Randy don't see a lack of "engineers and other professionals" as a problem, because they are their own experts. "I've been doing research."

For evidence, see how Randy regularly pretends to have anything worthwhile to say to PhD about the pandemic. A scientist in the field of infectious diseases at one of the premiere institutions of learning in the world, is no match for Randy, or the delusions of his fellow cult members.

My nature compels me to pity him, but I don't shed tears for people who are in favor of the violent overthrow of our government, want to terminate the constitution, &/or do away with elections.

The Dunning-Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which people wrongly overestimate their knowledge or ability in a specific area. This tends to occur because a lack of self-awareness prevents them from accurately assessing their own skills.

The concept of the Dunning-Kruger effect is based on a 1999 paper by Cornell University psychologists David Dunning and Justin Kruger. The pair tested participants on their logic, grammar, and sense of humor, and found that those who performed in the bottom quartile rated their skills far above average. For example, those in the 12th percentile self-rated their expertise to be, on average, in the 62nd percentile.

The researchers attributed the trend to a problem of metacognition—the ability to analyze one’s own thoughts or performance. “Those with limited knowledge in a domain suffer a dual burden: Not only do they reach mistaken conclusions and make regrettable errors, but their incompetence robs them of the ability to realize it,” they wrote.
