I have been told my role in the company I work for requires me to be in the office 5 days a week 9 (or more) hours a day.
95% of the rest of the company can work "hybrid". Which translates to 2 days a week in the office and 3 days a week from home.
For me, IT SUCKS!

That's it. End of rant/vent. Have a nice day!

I wonder if this has anything to do with it:

Jack Nicholson is one of my favorite actors. As many of you no-doubt already know, he, (and his good friend record producer Lou Adler), have had court-side seats for Lakers games, since the early '70s.

Was going to put this on the Chicago thread but that was too full of gloom and doom.
This is a good/happy story.

Reminds me of fond memories of my childhood. There was a place near my home that we went to ride our BMX bikes that looked a lot like this place.
Nothing super difficult but some challenges. We would ride and ride and ride for hours - or until someone destroyed their bike, broke a bone, and/or needed stitches. I have to assume some of us got a concussions or two as well.

It seems all I do is mow and weedeat, and spray and plant and move animals around and build shelters and repair fences and fix irrigation.....and at the end of each day the list of things to do has somehow gotten longer haha

I also had to prune. And almost took off the top of my left middle finger with a trimmer. Ouch. The saxophone will play two keys at once (bis out of control) with my current bandage. It was God telling me to withhold the double bird forever.

Y''ll remember that a tree that fell on my house in a blizzard? Well, a roofing crew finally got around to replacing half the roof yesterday (a lot of roofs needed work). It was one of the neighbor's fir trees that fell, and a little branch poked through the roof (it looks like a knife handle sticking out). Anyway, I was only having half the roof done because insurance is paying for that half of the roof, it is only a 12-year old roof, and I don't have the funds to blow on a 12-year old roof that does not need redone now.
The roofers were supposed to do the work on Tuesday. They got hung up on an earlier job so my job got moved to Wednesday. That is understandable. I don't hear from them on Wednesday, so I figure they never came. But when I get home on Wednesday, their pile of materials (shingles, etc) is gone and there is a trailer of old shingles and crap in my driveway. There is still a tree limb sticking 4 inches out of my roof, so I am perplexed. I walk around to the the other side of the house and see the heavy foot wear in the grass and that stuff has been moved around on my deck. Folks, they re-roofed the wrong side of my house. I called and left a message, asking for a status report. I figure the head honcho would know there was a mistake when he went to check the job. He calls back and asks me how I like the new roof. So I tell him they did the wrong side. I do not know how to be irate in person. I tell him it is a fortunate thing it is a fixable mistake. Today he calls me. He wants to meet to discuss how to go forward, blah blah, this is 100% his mistake, blah blah, but is very expensive. He is going to try to get some money out of me.

How the fuck do you roof the wrong side when there is a tree sticking out if the other side?

Don't give him a dime. Not a single dime.

Were they that dumb or was this intentional to try and weasel me out of more money? I am not sure I want them back on my property. If I tell them I am not giving them anything more, do they do a shitty job fixing the correct side and cut corners to try to recoup some of their costs? Perhaps, since I have only given them $100 thus far, I should try to cancel the contract (not sure that is allowed), and go with another company.

hard to tell without being there....I will say if it was intentional they took a decent sized risk assuming they would get reimbursed for the additional work. But....there are some shady contractors out there.

As for as the worksmanship.....since its an insurance claim a lot of times you can request (or they will require) an adjuster/inspector hires by the insurance company to inspect the work to ensure proper installation.

and again....dont pay them anything extra. nothing.

What if they come back and say it really was a bad mistake and they'll do the other half for just the material cost?

Nope.

Why? It wasn't Peppers mistake, it wasn't part of any contract. Its a an insurance claim, Pepper shouldn't have to bear any cost beyond the insurance deductible.

If the contractor works something out with the insurance company and they decide to pay them for materials fine. But, as the homeowner I wouldn't pay a damn thing.

I say that as a contractor. If I make a mistake like that....then well....fuck me. Its not the client's responsibility to shoulder the expense of my employees ineptitude.

So very sorry this happened DrPepper. Even if it doesn't cost you an additional dime, no one needs this kind of random friction suddenly complicating their life.

I think TDub's advice is spot on, and I'm curious to learn what your insurance co. does.

It makes me wish my construction/real estate attorney wife was here to give you her $0.02 .

I am curious what the insurance company says.

When we were in our 1st house, our neighbor Ray owned a roofing company. He had some trouble paying taxes and I think he lost his license so anything he did was on the downlow. Ray was a character and the nicest guy in the world unless you pissed him off. Then he had to fight you. Ray is about 5'6" and I don't think he ever lost a fight, except maybe against one of his brothers. He grew up with a single mom and 12 brothers in a single wide in Olathe. There are lots of great Ray stories, I wish he was still my neighbor.

We had some hail and Ray said he saw some issues with our shingles. Insurance company agreed, we picked out new shingles and scheduled Ray to do the work. When he got to the end, the shingles dye did not match up with the first ones he laid. No one but him ever would have noticed. Ray ripped 'em all off, took them back, got new ones and laid the new roof the same day.
