too bad that infrastructure bill didn't go to any actual...infrastructure.

When it falls down theres opportunity to build back better I suppose....
WTF are you talking about?
Don't be such a half-empty guy, twocoach. Instead, let's celebrate TDub's growth, and his newfound ability to make a post critical of Biden, (I think), that's resplendent in policy details he disagrees with, rather than resorting to his usual ageism-only complaints.

That, or, maybe he's cranky and lashing out incoherently because he misses old times?

Infrastructure was thought to be the one area Republicans could be counted on to help the new Congress in 2021. Um yeah. And here we have someone blaming Biden.

Fantastic! Now how long before I start to see the prices of goods and services reflecting that?
Gee, maybe reality should set in for those celebrating? Am I supposed to forget and ignore we are most likely headed for what can be a considerably tough recession?
Well, I guess we should celebrate the victories while we can. Sorry I rained on the parade.
Here I go with my celebration.....

Ok, now back to my regularly scheduled program.

All of the serious analyses I've read suggest that the price issues are now more profiteering etc than rational. And while I'm decidedly a lefty, socially, my leftiness does not extend to supporting government price controls or things of that nature. So this is one where the market (consumer habit) will need to drive change.

Seems like that's a good thing and something to be happy about but.....
I'm not smart enough to know the answers to my questions.
Overall/as a whole.......
Does the price of eggs going down help "the economy" and those who make money selling and investing in them?
Does the price of gas going down help "the economy" and those who make money selling and investing in gas?
Does the price of homes going down help "the economy" and those who make money selling and investing in them?
Does the price of smart phones going down help "the economy" and those who make money selling and investing in them?
Does the price of used cars falling help "the economy" and those who sell and invest in them?
Does the price of bacon going down help the "economy" and those who sell and invest in "bacon"?

I'm all for things that help the majority of Americans but I do feel SOMEWHAT bad for those who are trying to make a living and suffer because of it.

“suffer” is a pretty strong word when those industries are still making a profit (record profits in some cases)

This isn't directed at only you, Gutter, but to all the current naysayers.

None of us are happy with inflation that's higher than normal. But, most of the rest of the developed world has higher than normal rates of inflation, and while I know it's unpatriotic to ask, what makes US think we're so different? (See what I did there?)

A global respiratory pandemic has killed nearly 7 million people and disrupted supply chains world-wide, but we're so different, so special, we're somehow immune in contradistinction to the rest of the developed world?

Then again, not every country's inflation rate is high. According to the chart below, China's inflation rate is only 0.2%. If only we were...China? Maybe if we had similarly closed our society down much tighter and for nearly 3 years, we wouldn't have inflation, either?

As of April, the unemployment rate for those aged 16-24 in China climbed to 20.4%.

As of 6/2/23 the unemployment rate for those 16-24 y/o in the US was 7.4%.

Speaking of "unemployment", according to the commerce dept. in April: “When President Biden took office, the unemployment rate was 6.3%. Today, it is just 3.4%. That's the lowest in 54 years.”

Speaking of "the chart below", look at all the developed countries that have higher inflation than we do.

Not to mention, the CPI level this morning is the lowest it's been in two years.

Would anyone care to make the argument that things would be better if Biden hadn't won in 2020?

G20 Inflation Rates (Not sure why there are 24...)

Country Inflation rate as of May 23, 2023
China 0.2%
Switzerland 2.2
Russia 2.5
Saudi Arabia 2.7%
Spain 3.2%
South Korea 3.3%
Japan 3.5%
Brazil 3.94
Indonesia 4.00%
United States 4.00%
India 4.25%
Canada 4.4%
France 5.1%
Singapore 5.7%
Mexico 5.84%
Euro Area 6.1%
Germany 6.1%
Netherlands 6.1%
South Africa 6.8%
Australia 7.0
Italy 7.6%
United Kingdom 8.7%
