In a significant ruling, U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle has struck down Florida's Medicaid coverage restrictions for gender dysphoria treatments, which were supported by Governor Ron DeSantis. Judge Hinkle emphasized the reality of gender identity and concluded that the state's health code rule and new law violated federal laws on Medicaid, equal protection, and the Affordable Care Act's prohibition of sex discrimination. Specifically, he stated that the categorical ban on Medicaid payment for puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for gender dysphoria treatment is invalid. The judge criticized Florida for implementing biased and unscientific policies driven by political motives, asserting that discouraging individuals from embracing their transgender identity is not a valid state interest. As of now, there has been no response from Governor DeSantis' office regarding the ruling.
