Re: The Travel Thread
Back to travel......
Multiple years I went to Aspen (and the Denver area) for the 4th of July. I was a bit bummed I wasn't going this year until......
I have a friend that was supposed to fly to Denver yesterday to attend the Dead and Company shows in Boulder (and spend the 4th of July in Denver) and their flight was cancelled. Not a big deal until they were told "all the flights are fully booked" until Sunday late afternoon. They rented a SUV at O'Hare and decided to drive there. I would have looked for other flight/airline options but to each their own.
I have a co-worker who was supposed to fly to Belize today via Houston. I wish her the best but I have zero doubt she will run in to some difficulty getting to Belize.

You're welcome but as Steve says, "don't kill yourself"! That and "past a".

Re: The Travel Thread
Speaking of Dead and Co shows in Boulder, and the Denver airport…so I ended up heading to KC instead.
But while driving thru Denver last night, even during rush hour, I didn’t hit any traffic…until I get east of town (cuz the Denver airport is like a half hour east of town, out in a buncha bumfuck prairie dog fields).
Shit was bumper to bumper for miles, all the way from the airport spilling back onto 70, with yall tourists bumrushing CO so you could spend the entire weekend enjoying the 4th of July festivities and mild weather in the mountains.
And by “4th of July festivities and mild weather in the mountains,” I mean, sit in yall’s lodging accommodations harassing the front desk and binge watching reruns of Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

I digress…
Anywho so I’m debating whether to make do with this continental breakfast coffee, or go across the street and see if I have any tornado/Jim Morrison flashbacks at Starbucks.

I can’t knock ‘em for their Pikes/House blend. You can drink it black.
Just all the other shit that has been added to the menu bc people love sugar I can’t defend.
Dunkin’ on the other hand is bad enough you have to sugar it up but even if you ask for one sugar they put in a cup.
I also agree with ous that I’ve had a lot shitty rest stop coffee.
Catching up on this.
Charbucks always tastes burnt to me. I prefer to roast my own. A much lighter roast where you can taste the coffee and not the char.

Re: The Travel Thread
When I frequently drove back and forth from Denver, I enjoyed stopping at the oasis in Colby.
This Starbucks Ousdahl has referenced once had a go chicken go right next to it (I think it’s Qdoba now?). I’d get a $5 (this was at least 10 years ago now) coffee and a box of gIzzards and white gravy for breakfast for $3. There was something satIsfying about the coffee being more expensive than the ‘food’ I ordered.

Re: The Travel Thread
I think that tells you 2 things.
1.that coffee is severely overpriced
2. gizzards are gross. bird stomach....yuck. only if there's nothing else to eat....

Love gizzard, especially Go Chicken Go gizzard.
I thought gizzard were just a muscle for grinding up seeds and stuff.

I hate when you're both right:
gizzard: a muscular, thick-walled part of a bird's stomach for grinding food, typically with grit.
Won't even consider eating it...

They are nasty but strangely delicious.
As a kid, my mom would make Livers and gizzards. I learned to like gizzards because hell nah I’m not eating livers

i’ve fried gizzards myself…they’re quite delicious, albeit a bit tough if not prepared well

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

maybe I've just been unlucky. Its possible I've only had them at pretty terrible dive bars. So...theres that...
I think they'd be better for fishing than for eating.

Get them tender in a pressure cooker, marinate in soy, ginger, sesame oil, gouchuchang, and brown sugar. Skewer and grill over charcoal until browned.

Strikes me as lipstick on a pig, but does sound good.
BTW, unless I had forgotten, your recent reveal that you'd been to culinary school begs for more details, when and if you're inclined.

I don't measure anything, it's a basic Korean marinade. I'd pressure cook for 20 minutes and test tenderness then marinate.
