I know I have asked this before and people have responded but please refresh my memory.
Why do a few/some/many/most people choose not to respond when you say good morning to them?
Saying they didn't hear you is not an acceptable response.

people suck
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

because they were told not to talk to strangers....particularly old men.

and also....there are so many people...maybe they were tired of saying the same old meaningless pleasantries 500 times in a row.

I suppose your first response isn't a terrible one. All be it unfortunate.
Your second response.... Yes, "there are so many people" and "maybe they are/were tired of saying the same old meaningless (TO THEM) pleasantries 500 times in a row but it's never meaningless to me to say good morning to someone one - or if someone says good morning to me.

Maybe it's just the cynical old man in me but I feel people are less respectful towards one another these days. Or maybe I should say less caring about others?

why can't we just nod and move along like normal. Why must we speak to appease the feelings of strangers?

I say that as someone who is genuinely kind and caring but doesn't feel the need to speak to every person I see. (and I am positive I see thousands less people per day than those in Chicago)

Don't get me wrong, I don't say good morning to everybody I see.
I generally/typically (but not always) say good morning to people I am making eye contact with who I know, who are working a job in which I am interacting with them, and I will/am sharing a "common" small space with.

I don't know if this is legit or not but who the fuck would keep yelling at her to get a bodyguard and to "go, go, go, go queen go" - especially after she says (and clearly you can see) she's scared?

I remember reading a lot about this when living in NY. I think one victim even ran up to a house asking for help, entered and when the house owners called the police, ran out of the house and was later found like the other victims.

Case went cold…and now 13 years later ( ugh I’m old ), they have a suspect.

Ugh, that close to getting away, except...

You can't miss the story if you pay attention to places like twitter, YouTube, "news".

I'm already cynical enough, so I've tried to avoid it, but it's impossible.
I guess his wife was totally surprised and immediately filed for divorce.

Am I the only person on this planet that is so cynical and skeptical that I am thinking "Psychedelic Water" is somehow going to take advantage of this woman?
My guess is she's had a hundred (or more) lawyers try and track her down. Hopefully at least one is a good soul and will genuinely look after her and care about her best interests.

Absolutely!

When I met my future wife she was an attorney in a high rise office building in the Crown Center area of KC. As an excuse to get out of the office, twice a week on Tues and Fri mornings she and a fellow attorney would go to the building snack bar and buy one Powerball ticket apiece. Having played a lot of poker before the Lottery became a thing, I had never even considered buying a lottery ticket because I knew the odds were so bad. But, several months of watching someone pull a $1 ticket out at 10:00pm to see if they'd just won millions of dollars had an effect, and soon, I was buying a ticket twice a week for many years, too.

What was really funny to me when I first met her was how she and the other attorney had talked about what they'd do if they won while going up and down the elevator over the years, and because they were versed in tax and estate law having represented many high income individuals and their estates, she already had a pretty sophisticated plan of what she would do, and when, how to dole it out to family members to share the wealth with the least tax penalties possible, etc., in the event she won. It was pretty funny to hear her rattle it off, especially considering it was so unlikely to happen.

Probably a lottery story repeat but.....
When I worked at the CBOE there was a "Metro Mart" in the building. People would go there to buy whatever - and lottery tickets. Wouldn't matter if you won $1 on a scratch off or 1000s of dollars on a "regular" lottery ticket, the Indian woman that was a part owner would yell out to whoever was in the store - "WE HAVE A BIG WEINER".

Anyways, I was NOT in this group but I knew the guys who were. A couple of those in the group were truly pissed off about it. See link below.
This was NOT the only time something like this happened.
Another time a clerk ran a $100 a square square pool for the Super Bowl. In other words, $10,000 in the pool. The Monday after the Super Bowl he was a no-show to work. Same with the Tuesday. Then the Wednesday. Dude never returned to the CBOE. A few people went on the hunt to find the guy. I wouldn't think $10,000 would be enough to be ok losing your job and having people trying to hunt you down. I don't recall if they ever found the guy and if so, what happened.

I live in a building that might as well be a college dorm these days. Last night I went down to the Lobby around 9:00pm to pick up a package and I couldn't help but think I am kind of glad I don't have a daughter who is a slut that I would have to worry about.

To give you an idea of what it's like living in a building with a shitload of 20 something year olds who's priority in life is to party and have blatant disregard for rules and authority........
Yesterday the management sent out both a heads up email and weekly email that included but was not limited to the following (I removed the name of the building and replaced it with ****.....

P.S. The "Sky Deck" is 60 floors above ground AND although they send out a "newsletter" email every Friday with rules and warnings, this shit still takes place all the time.

This was the "letter" email.

Dear **** residents,
We hope this email finds you well and enjoying summer. This notice is to inform you that there have been incidents where glass liquor/wine/beer bottles, and glass cups have been used by residents on the Sky Deck, glass items and dinner plates have been placed on buildings ledges. We bring this to your attention because if glass goes over the ledge, it may cause a fatality.
GLASS OF ANY KIND IS NOT PERMITTED ON THE SKY DECK. This is the buildings policy (posted in both the Sky deck rules and in all Friday newsletters)
You may bring your glass containers into the Sky lounge and transfer drinks into plastic containers/cups to use on the Sky Deck. ONLY PLASTIC OR PAPER products are acceptable. ABSOLUTELY NO GLASS.
If these incidents continue, offending residents will be instructed to leave the Sky Deck, the police will be called and ultimately management will have shut the Sky Deck down due to misuse and endangerment.
Sincerely,
Your **** management team.

This was in the weekly "news letter".

NO Doormats: Reminder that doormats are not permitted in **** Apartments and Lofts- If you have a doormat we ask that you remove it immediately. This is a City of Chicago fire violation.

Smoking:
As a reminder, **** Apartments & Lofts is a completely 100% smoke-free community (including inside all apartments and stairwells). Smoking anywhere inside the building is a lease violation. All smokers are required to exit the building (15 FT away from the building). Please respect your neighbors. If you suspect smoking on your floor, report to the concierge desk/management office. If smoking is caught, it can lead to fines and/or lease termination. See below:
1st offense: $250
2nd offense: $500
3rd offense: Termination of residency

Trash Chute:
Please refrain from throwing furniture and metal bed frames down the chute. The chute is meant for garbage bags ONLY. Throwing anything down the chute other than garbage bags is a lease violation and will result in a fine.
Please remember to fully push your trash bags down the trash chute and close the pull-down door once you're finished. This will help eliminate lingering odors coming from the chute.

Windows and Rainfall:
**** requires that windows be shut when there is rainfall. If it is discovered that your window was left open, we will charge a $500 fine to the respective unit/resident. PLEASE close your windows when it is raining or expected to rain.

Noise complaints:
**** residents, please refer all noise complaints to the management office or security staff. Do not write notes to your neighbors!

Animals/Pets in the Building:
Please curb your pet! Do not allow pet relief at planters or near entrance to ****. Violators will be fined.
This is a reminder to all residents that animals/pets are not allowed in the amenity areas and all animals in the building must be registered with the office to be an authorized animal/pet. Please reach out to the office with any questions and to get your animal tag. Also, animals/pets are not allowed on building furniture anywhere on the premises. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
