That doesn't frustrate me at all. It's one of the few truly honest things you have said here.
I don't think I've ever been unclear about that fact.
You just can't apply selfish principles to laws that affect an entire community, city, state or nation. It's a recipe for feeling frustrated and "not represented" because you will expect to be represented in and by everything. Not being about you has been transformed into "being against me" by Trump's GOP because he recognizes how motivating grievance politics is. GOP has been transformed into "Grievance Only Platform" because their only platform seems to be a desire to stick it to someone else for daring to make it about anyone else and not just white, male Christians.
Very well put, twocoach.

We have to have some sort of basic agreement as members of a community that not every law is going to benefit each of us personally just like our agreement that giving law enforcement the power to police us is going to affect us each in different ways. It seems like it would be common sense but in Trump World, even the words "common sense" have taken on a new definition.

I think there is a difference between "sticking it to someone else" and expecting other countries to take responsibility for their own well-being and that of their citizens. We cannot effectively govern the whole world, as has been demonstrated during the Obiden presidency. Making sure that we are in good shape and our citizens are taken care of should always be priority one for the POTUS.

This notion that we can only do one thing is corny. Our government has far more time, money, programs and focus being spent on the welfare of US citizens than on Ukraine. To try to say otherwise is a deliberate lie. I am sorry that you feel that your increase in grocery and gas costs is more important than the people being raped, murdered and enslaved in Ukraine. The government is trying to get the public sector free markets involved on board reeling in their record profits they are enjoying but that takes "more government" in the form of regulations, legislation, audits and capping of free enterprise, AKA things that the GOP actively fight against. Don't whine about shit you help to cause.

Look at the map, dummies. There isn't enough land to the south. That leaves NORTH. You'd think that their desire to protect our borders would take precedence over their desire to show how "anti-woke" they are in their refusal to do anything about climate change.

Not to mention - we don’t really KNOW what relative resource wealth will look like in 100 or 200 years. It would seem very fucking stupid to me to close yourself off from the world, where you might very fucking well NEED the world.

I'm not wishing ill on anyone but this brings up an interesting point. Psych had a change of heart on abortion when it affected he and his family directly. Originally, only whores needed to get an abortion, only through personal experience did he change his mind. Yet he gives no second thought to immigrants coming here to escape violence in their home countries. A total lack of empathy for others is causing a lot of problems.

One, I'm not whining. I'm investing all of my energy in trying to fix the problems I'm dealing with.
Two, I didn't cause anything. I'm not the idiot sending billions of dollars to Ukraine when our own infrastructure is in shambles and our own military is undermanned and underequipped. I'm not interested in money spent "relative to" other countries. It should all be spent on us because it is our tax money. I don't know why that isn't common sense, but it obviously is not.

I don't wish ill on anyone. I am not unsympathetic. But, as I have said repeatedly, the lifeboat is swamped and we are all going to end up living in lesser conditions if the flow isn't managed. I like Ramaswamy's notion of merit-based immigration. Seems like a good way of managing the issue long-term versus just bailing water.

1) Biden’s infrastructure bill

2) the US spends more on its military than THE NEXT 7 LARGEST MILITARY BUDGETS COMBINED

Is a willingness to work in fields and factories meritorious? Otherwise this is yet another talking point solution that doesn’t really do anything to address the problem.

If our military is undermanned and underequipped, then it is due to poor management of personnel and funds not a lack of personnel and funds. Also, not actively being in a war abroad combined with really low unemployment negatively impacts recruiting. And the attacks on the US education system, especially in states where recruitment tends to be higher, has led to test results on the ASVAB, the military’s standardized test for potential recruits, to drop by nearly 10%.

Yes. We are exceedingly wealthy on open space, even taking out vast swaths of the west.
