i’ll add that i don’t think it’s an overstatement to say that this system has exacerbated water issues in the west
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

And it’s only getting worse as we’re in the slow beginnings of a water rush.KUTradition wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 8:58 am i’ll add that i don’t think it’s an overstatement to say that this system has exacerbated water issues in the west
I’m reminded some of this Apollo 13 scene:
There weren’t meant to be megacities in the American west. Our self-induced climate issues are making that even more the case. Vegas and Phoenix, in particular, just shouldn’t be there.

And it has also created a noticeable uptick in pollution in those areas.KUTradition wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 8:58 am i’ll add that i don’t think it’s an overstatement to say that this system has exacerbated water issues in the west

My family had almonds in Lodi, CA until fairly recently. Suffice it to say I’m good on almonds forever.Feral wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 9:17 amFull disclosure: I absolutely love almonds.KUTradition wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 9:14 am some of the most water-intensive crops (alfalfa, almonds, pistachios) are being grown in some of the driest areas

I don't think anyone specific was being blamed (until you said mainly Republicans) but rfkj was just identifying a problem that needs to be addressed.twocoach wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 8:09 amThe takeover of US rural acreage for agricultural and livestock by foreign entities is a real problem facing rural America. It's Congress that needs to do something about it and it is inevitably that you'll find the (usually Republican) Congressional representatives have been bought by these groups so that they can achieve their goals. So of course they look to a Democratic President to blame and of course they look to a Democratic Presidential candidate to fix their problems. Why would they put the blame on the people they keep putting into office over and over and over? That would mean they were to blame themselves and that self-reflection seems to be an effort GOP voters cannot bring themselves to do.
If their congressional representatives are not watching out for them they THAT is who they need to hold accountable. They are the ones that are supposed to be passing laws to help them. RJK Jr. isn't going to do jack shit to help them.
But yes politicians being bought by special interest groups is probably the biggest problem this country has. Except, we all know damn well its both Republicans and democrats

Water issues in the west stem from pretending that there is water in the west that isn't there. We pump in all this water into the damn desert places like Vegas. And we grow a lot of heavy water dependent crops in California. When you ignore logic dumb things happenKUTradition wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 8:58 am i’ll add that i don’t think it’s an overstatement to say that this system has exacerbated water issues in the west

Instead of backing out 25,000 feet so you can fit in a "both sides do it" barf, try to stick to the topic being discussed since it is a topic you injected into the discussion.randylahey wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 10:13 amI don't think anyone specific was being blamed (until you said mainly Republicans) but rfkj was just identifying a problem that needs to be addressed.twocoach wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 8:09 amThe takeover of US rural acreage for agricultural and livestock by foreign entities is a real problem facing rural America. Yes, RFK Jr. is just making a complaint and isn't offering up any solutions (another example of why he more closely resembles a Republican). But in order for it to move from a thing to whine about to a thing that gets addressed, discussion needs to be had as to why the problem exists and who should be challenged to fix it. Avoiding that discussion so you can "both sides do it" is just another waste of time.

Yep. It's easier to put together a nice sounding 2 minute video than it is to get politicians to make changes to laws. Especially if their district/state is gaining jobs or they are getting donations from companies.jfish26 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 11:51 amA Hamilton line comes to mind: winning is easy, young man, governing's harder.twocoach wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 11:49 amInstead of backing out 25,000 feet so you can fit in a "both sides do it" barf, try to stick to the topic being discussed since it is a topic you injected into the discussion.randylahey wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 10:13 am

Step one in fixing any problem is Identifying it and discussing it.
