Dovetails right into the "create a problem so you have something to complain about" model that seems to be today's politics.jfish26 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 9:44 amBut of course this is the modern conservative approach. Such is the nature of the pendulum swings of modern politics. One group tears down auditing and regulations and then when rampant corruption ensues because mega corporations see an avenue for increased profits, they complain about how no one kept rampant corruption from happening. Then a bunch of audits and regulations get built and that same group complains that their prices went up. Wash, rinse, repeat.

where would we be without any of the mitigation measures?
would we have been better, or worse off?

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

I can think of a million or so people whose souls would prefer that they could have been complaining about mitigation measures.Feral wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 9:47 am^^^twocoach wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 9:44 amUnquestionably worse off. Unfortunately, they caught covid while working in the giant meat packing plants owned by the mega corporations who got those plants built in rural America by bribing Republican politicians to sell their American family farm crushing plant as "jobs for rural Americans!"

The cdc doesn't need shut down. It just needs reined in. Politicians were using cdc suggestions as rule of law. And here's the problem with that...

so, you’re blaming the CDC for what politicians do with their analyses?

Things the cdc is concerned with: viruses/disease
Things the cdc isn't concerned with: jobs/economy, people's mental health, normally for children and their development, society as a whole, etc
Which is why their recommendations regarding a virus should not be applied to society as a whole

What a dumbass statement. Viruses and diseases spread in our society, in our workplaces, our schools and in every other corner of our economy. To think the two things exist separately is just plain ignorant. JFCrandylahey wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 12:07 pm Things the cdc is concerned with: viruses/disease

Nobody said they existed separately. You're right. There is. And the people with the authority to "consider" these things chose, in the most important window, to literally close our eyes and ears to the problem.randylahey wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 12:14 pmNobody said they existed separately. It's fucking wild: I understand that old and poor people dying doesn't necessarily move the needle, but in a just world we never would have required a literal coup attempt to disqualify The Defendant and his loser coterie from leadership. The Defendant's response to Covid alone was probably the single biggest presidential fuckup in at least the last 150 years.

Amazing how you'll bring trump into anything. Oh right all trumps fault. Good point. At one point in the early phases, when covid was just a china thing, before the big outbreak in Italy and Europe, Trump wanted to shut down all travel to and from China. Which sounds like you'd agree with that right? Would've helped stop the spread right. Did the liberals support that idea? No that wrote articles about what a xenophobejfish26 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 12:58 pmYou're right. There is. Re: Chinese biolab on American soil
The biggest political success from covid was using covid to put trump in a lose lose situation. And it worked perfectly. Cause people were too stupid to see through it.
Re: Chinese biolab on American soil
Randy, your being willfully blind follows as day to night stupidity. We had an evil incompetent grifter who grifted and failed at almost everything. Trump was even bad at spray tan.
Re: Chinese biolab on American soil
You really have problems with understanding topics of discussion. Is the conduct of (and leadership of) the executive branch of our government somehow NOT relevant to a discussion of what should be done when "considering" a national response to a global pandemic???randylahey wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 1:08 pmAmazing how you'll bring trump into anything. Covid became a lose-lose for The Defendant because of his own actions (and his own misplaced priorities). Not anyone else's.randylahey wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 1:09 pm The biggest political success from covid was using covid to put trump in a lose lose situation. And it worked perfectly.
