Chiefs 2023
Re: Chiefs 2023
I think maybe even something like 8th?*
*8th in total guarantees, 7th in average value per year

Re: Chiefs 2023
Mahomes is alleged to be making $20-$45 million a year in endorsements and that number is no doubt rising each year.
Chris Jones makes about $500k in endorsements.
I am not judging Jones because he isn't doing things like Mahomes did.
Re: Chiefs 2023
Regardless, Mahomes and Kelce ( you didn't mention Kelce ) could certainly have asked for more from the Chiefs.twocoach wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 3:23 pmMahomes is alleged to be making $20-$45 million a year in endorsements and that number is no doubt rising each year.

Re: Chiefs 2023
There's no way the Chiefs aren't offering at least what Quinnen just got - 4 years @ 24 million - 66 guaranteed. Quinnen is 4 years younger than Chris Jones.
That money would very easily be the 2nd most expensive per year on the Chiefs.
And with that, he'd be paid in the top 3 defensive linemen in the NFL.
If that's not enough for you, then I think it's fair for some to find it selfish ( me included ) and not working to help the team.

sure, but the Chiefs don’t really have a say on how much Heinz (or whomever else) is paying out for endorsementstwocoach wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 3:23 pmMahomes is alleged to be making $20-$45 million a year in endorsements and that number is no doubt rising each year.

Re: Chiefs 2023
If he plays out his current contract, he'll have earned close to 90 million from the Chiefs.
I'm certain they aren't guaranteeing less than 60 million more.
That's 150 million dollars -- so the argument that's been common lately of, he wants generational money, is meh, b/c he's already done so.
We traded Tyreek who lied and said he just wanted to win.
We might have to do so with Jones.

Re: Chiefs 2023
I get it. He thinks he should be getting Top 1 or 2 at his position and he's probably right as far as his ranking. We'll see. There is no impact to his absence at this time so it's no big deal yet. Fingers crossed they figure it out and he is back on the field as we don't want to go back to the days where we had zero pash rush. The rest of their defense isn't good enough to survive that.pdub wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 3:32 pm There's no way the Chiefs aren't offering at least what Quinnen just got - 4 years @ 24 million - 66 guaranteed. No, it’s definitely not.
Re: Chiefs 2023
We traded Tyreek specifically cause it would have been tough to do Jones if we did Tyreek.pdub wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 3:53 pm If he plays out his current contract, he'll have earned close to 90 million from the Chiefs.

So he has to be looking at 30 million plus for this to be a problem. If he demands Donald money then you stuck. Chiefs have no cap space this year but do next year so they structure the contract with a huge signing bonus. The Chiefs know that without Jones this is not a Super Bowl caliber defense.
Now if they trade Jones then every player going to know that if you make some crazy demands we sending you packing. GOOD LUCK lol
Re: Chiefs 2023
They also have to look long term for possible extensions for Creed Humphrey, Nick Bolton and Trey Smith.
Re: Chiefs 2023
Endorsements come to winners. It is really a fool's game to let a couple of million dollars force you out of a good situation for a top NFL player. Jones has never been particularly a good fit for endorsements though. Unless he does the Life Cereal hate thing.
Re: Chiefs 2023
It's not a couple million here -- I think they are more like 20 to 30 million apart in guarantees.
Re: Chiefs 2023
Guaranteed money at 30+ is a fool's errand too for a defender.

Mahomes’ exuberance in support is fantastic

99 is too lazy to go look it up.
So what's the deal with Chris Jones? Is he playing for KC this year?
Lazy, inquiring minds want to know.

He bet $250K at 13/5 odds that Buechele would throw 2 TD passes in the game.

Re: Chiefs 2023
His contract ends after this season and he wants to be extended.
People are only guessing here -- but it sounds like he wants under the range of resetting the market -- i.e. being paid as one of the top 2 defensive linemen in the NFL -- and probably wants a lot of guaranteed money.
Issue is, he's not necessarily young, and the Chiefs would tie themselves down in salary cap if they promised him 90+ million over multiple seasons. They've been burned with bad/bloated contracts before ( Frank Clark, Justin Houston, Eric Berry ) and know they need to balance money on their roster to keep talent around Mahomes.
IF he decided to sit out the season, since he has a base salary of 20 million, he'd loose just over 1 million for every game he sat out.
