To me, Rs’ thirsty response here suggests that we should in fact be *extremely* skeptical and slow to draw conclusions when, some time between now and next November, there is an actual attack near the southern border.

"At this time, there is no indication of a terrorist attack" or threat to the public, New York Governor Kathy Hochul told reporters on Wednesday evening. Her comments were echoed by federal and local law enforcement officials at a separate news conference.

The FBI said in a statement it had concluded its investigation. "A search of the scene revealed no explosive materials, and no terrorism nexus was identified," the FBI said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Niagara County officials released this statement regarding the incident:

“Niagara County officials are at the Rainbow Bridge, along with multiple state and local agencies, with appropriate resources to support the investigation of today’s car explosion. This is a federal incident and the investigation will be led by the federal government. As such, we will not be making any additional public comments, as we will defer to lead investigators so there is a single point of communication to the public and media.”

What "early law enforcement reports"? There is zero mention of such a statement by local authorities in any coverage by the local Niagara Gazette. If they have numerous interviews with people who saw smoke from a nearby 7-11 then I feel pretty strongly that if such a statement was made that it would have shown up in one of their numerous posts about the incident.
