Totally random thread
Re: Totally random thread
So my mom is turning 70 this weekend.
Not that she’s making a big deal about it. But she’s making a yuge deal about it.
What’s fun little birthday ideas? Gifts, treats, whatever to make it special.
Lemme tee this up for you guys:
What would you do for my mom?

Today's definition of being Guttered....
TVG/Fan Fuel gave me a $20 "promotion". Last week I used it to increase my account to $100.03
I follow horse racing in South Africa because it takes place early morning in the USA. Judge me, I deserve it.
There was a horse in the 5th Race at Scottsville that I have seen race before. Not a bad horse and one I thought might have a chance to win the race. I was going to bet $25 to win and $25 to place on it. Basically "free/house" money so why not?
What convinced me NOT to bet on it was that the horse had the highest odds in the race and had a jockey that I am not familiar with. I figured the "punters" know/knew more than I do. I figured wrong.
Horse went off at 37-1. Horse won. Paid $76.40 to win and $16.60 to place.
Meaning had I bet the $25 to win and place I would have gotten $1162.50 back.

If I needed help coming up with a gift for my mom I would definitely ask a bunch of strangers who have never met her and know nothing about her.ousdahl wrote: ↑Thu Nov 16, 2023 8:28 am So my mom is turning 70 this weekend.

Re: Totally random thread
Just posted this on social media. This is an example of why it's probably a good thing I don't own a gun.
Just got threatened by 2 "Bucket Boys" in front of Nike.
Was called "a racist mother fucker" because I didn't give them money and then when I tried to engage the guy who called me "a racist mother fucker" in a respectful conversation I was told by another one that I was "about to find yourself (myself) in a situation".
FUCK THIS CITY!
I can't even walk home from work on Michigan Avenue without being threatened.
I'm sick of this shit!

Why would you engage them?

Re: Totally random thread
Good question! In hindsight I should have ignored them.
I was sitting on a concrete bench. I was approached by them. I politely declined. Got up to walk away and one guy near the crosswalk at Chicago and Erie got in my face and started calling me a racist mother fucker. I simply responded, "I'm sorry. No need for you to disrespect me. I spent an hour yesterday with kids from Cook school (a "inner-city" school in the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood)".
The three other guys walked up to me and two tried to cool things down but the other guy told me "you about to find yourself in a situation". I asked him if he was threatening me. I know the off duty Chicago Cops who work security in Nike so I had a little more bravado than I typically would have had but I am sick of those fuckers. They purposely intimidate people - such as my 90 year old mother. Fuck 'em.
On a related note. This is what those fuckers did about a week or so ago.....

Re: Totally random thread
Gutter, I do feel for you, and I know that living in that environment can induce serious stressors.
Pro Tip...don't mention all of the work you do trying to impact the lives of those misfortunate folks....you have good intentions, no doubt.
Unfortunately, it is usually perceived at that end as condescension. I am sure that Psych would have a better explanation of the whys.....but I know this from experience.
Also, don't ask someone if they are threatening you. Whether you are or aren't being threatened is really your perception that you are. Leave it at that. Once again, an unintentional escalation on your part.
In the situation that you described, I would:
Have told the guy that no, I am not racist.
Have not gained confidence from having 2 not be aggressive, nor from the proximity of security guards close by.
Suggest to the antagonist that it would be best for both of you to simply let it go.
State your piece with the confidence that you are doing the right thing, with conviction...not pride.
Good luck, and stay safe.

Hard time of year for me and I'm struggling with a bunch of things. I think that had some bearing on my short fuse.
Good news is/was we got a Jayhawk W today.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones!

My stupid washing machine just decide to not work properly, so it flooded all over the place.
I ran another cycle while watching it, and the wash cycle would just ‘hum’ basically, without the drum turning. Thankfully, though, I was able to cancel the cycle and it drained without issue.
That said, it is Black Friday, so sales!

Just a heads up. Today is NOT Black Friday. It's White Thursday.

I think black Friday is like a month long now
and Halloween starts in July, Christmas starts before Halloween and if you haven't got your leprechaun decorations up by New years you're behind.
This rush of the holidays is slowly killing the joy of all of them.

I had this happen. Turned out to be an internal filter clogged on the front loader. Pet hair. Inexpensive fix for me. But the drum not turning does sound like a belt has broken. YouTube will have some ideas.Shirley wrote: ↑Thu Nov 23, 2023 6:30 pmMan B2L, that sucks, sorry to hear it.RainbowsandUnicorns wrote: ↑Thu Nov 23, 2023 2:39 pmSorry to read your misfortune.Back2Lawrence wrote: ↑Thu Nov 23, 2023 2:05 pm My stupid washing machine just decide to not work properly, so it flooded all over the place.

dammit...missed a coyote by about 1 inch over his back. Bastard was watching my chickens again. Shouldve taken 5 seconds to get rested instead of shooting from a half walk. He'll be back...
