But that definitely affects ‘best’ category. Greatly. Defense is good, sure, but the rules of the game aren’t set up for defenses to beat offenses.KUTradition wrote: ↑Sun Dec 03, 2023 9:52 am fsu D is still top notch and i’m not a fan of punishing the team due to injury

Re: NCAA Football 2023 Season
The team is not as talented at the most important position because of the injury.
If they had a proven adequate replacement, see:KU, the drop off wouldn’t be as significant.
I doubt two SEC teams get in. But I definitely think they are both better than FSU. Easily.

Re: NCAA Football 2023 Season
It's not supposed to be the best it's supposed to be the most deserved.
If we're gonna just say "we'll, yea they lost...but this team is better" why do we have 13 games before that. Fuck it use the pre-season rankings and eye test to determine the champion.
UM 13-0
UW 13-0
FSU 13-0
those should be guaranteed spots.
the 4th is up for grabs.
I'd give it to Texas probably.
How can Alabama jump 4 spots with 1 win?
Can't put Georgia in the last spot after they got beat by another potential.
How do you punish Texas for beating the piss out of a ranked team?

At least according to the CFP Executive Director.
"It is best" CFP executive director Bill Hancock said Tuesday. "Most deserving is not anything in the committee's lexicon. They are to rank the best teams in order, and that's what they do. Just keep that word in mind: best teams."

I have been texting some people and it's kind of crazy. I know what games Northwestern, TCU, and Tulane are being "invited" to play in.

Committee fucked up.
Any undefeated P5 team should be in.
I would have kept Bama out bc Texas beat Bama and Bama was the SECs best choice.
If this is how they choose then yea, we need more than 4. I’d like 8 but 12 is fine.

Re: NCAA Football 2023 Season
Two thoughts.
1. I can't/won't say FSU didn't deserve to be in but I can't decided who they deserved to be in ahead of.
2. Meyer said it perfectly yesterday. Doesn't matter if it's 4, 8, 12, whatever. Someone is going to rightfully feel they got screwed by being left out.

Committee nailed it by keeping FSU out. I didn’t know what to expect, but their offense is atrocious without Travis.
Frankly, I think there were strong arguments for FSU, Bama, UGA, and Texas. But I’m glad that the committee takes recent team strength and performance into consideration, as one factor among several.

Yep. If their QB doesn't get hurt, they are in. It's just the breaks. I figured it would go this way, but I was hopeful that Tejas would get effed.

For whatever it is worth....
Last week's #7 (Texas) and #8 (Bama) are in.
Last week's #1 (Georgia) and #4 (FSU - despite winning) are out.
Going in to the season I would have never guessed that could happen.

Sure, but like every argument made in this regard (I don't disagree with you), it can be dismissed. Because, fandom.

I don't think FSU is better than Georgia, either. Texas may be better than Alabama or Georgia. Maybe.
Re: NCAA Football 2023 Season
do I think FSU is better than Bama or Georgia? no.
did they earn their shot? absolutely.
Its a bad precedent thay says wins dont matter, losses don't matter, only the eye test matters.
Might as well go back to picking the champion BCS poll style.

precedent doesn't matter, going to 12 teams next year. 13th team, as mentioned earlier, is still gonna be pissed, no matter....but, if they are the 13th team, is anyone gonna care that much? Please don't let KU be the 13th team next season!

Re: NCAA Football 2023 Season
This is a massive exaggeration, though. It’s not that results don’t matter—it’s that there are other factors that matter as well. Bama, UGA, and Texas are all 12-1 with their only losses coming against really good teams. FSU played a softer schedule and are a much worse team today than they were a few weeks ago.
Rank everyone by record alone if that’s what you want, but that’s just not the system that exists.
