When Republicans show you who they are:

Members of Texas Republican party free to associate with Nazi sympathizers

Executive committee rejects banning members who ‘espouse or tolerate antisemitism’ and deny Holocaust, arguing clause is vague.

Members of Texas’s Republican party are free to associate with Nazi sympathizers without worries of violating internal policy after they held a vote on Saturday.

In a 32-29 vote, the party’s executive committee decided against excluding from their organization those “known to espouse or tolerate antisemitism, pro-Nazi sympathies or Holocaust denial”. A proposal to ban such individuals was included in a resolution supporting Israel as it wars with Hamas in Gaza.

...Morgan Cisneros Graham, another committee member in favor of the clause, said she did not understand how some of her colleagues “don’t have the discernment to define what a Nazi is”.

Some members of the board also tried to prevent evidence of the vote, the Texas Tribune reported.

The vote was held shortly after the Texas Tribune photographed the Republican state representative Jonathan Stickland meeting with white nationalist Nick Fuentes.

Fuentes is an avowed admirer of Hitler, whose regime murdered 6 million Jews during the Holocaust around the time of the second world war. He has also previously called for a “holy war” against Jews.

I would be curious to know whether, in good faith or otherwise, at least a few of the votes against this were couched in the Constitutional right to free association.

Those bastions of "conservative" Republican integrity, CPAC, and the Heritage Foundation?

What a surprise...not.

Republicans to meet allies of Hungary’s Viktor Orbán on ending Ukraine aid

Hungarian appearance at two-day event part of Orbán’s transatlantic attempt to bolster Russia’s war

Allies of Hungary’s far-right prime minister Viktor Orbán will hold a closed-door meeting with Republicans in Washington to push for an end to US military support for Ukraine, the Guardian has learned.

Members of the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs and staff from the Hungarian embassy in Washington will on Monday begin a two-day event hosted by the conservative Heritage Foundation thinktank.

The first day includes panel speeches about the Ukraine war as well as topics such as Transatlantic Culture Wars. It is expected to feature guests including Magor Ernyei, the international director of the Centre for Fundamental Rights, the institute that organized CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) Hungary. Kelley Currie, a former ambassador under then president Donald Trump, said she was invited “but declined”.

When Heritage celebrated its 50th anniversary last April, Orbán’s political director, Balázs Orbán (no relation), was invited as a speaker for the event. Heritage’s president, Kevin Roberts, repeatedly praised the Hungarian leader on X...

Time to shutter the Hheritage Foundation. They better stop conducting a counter foreign policy. Soft on communism. Big on corruption.

Pope Francis Allows Priests to Bless Same-Sex Couples

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/12/18/worl ... ial%20rite.
The Vatican said Monday that Pope Francis had allowed priests to bless same-sex couples, his most definitive step yet to make the Roman Catholic Church more welcoming to L.G.B.T.Q. Catholics and more reflective of his vision of a more pastoral, and less rigid, church.

The Vatican had long said it could not bless same-sex couples because it would undermine church doctrine that marriage is only between a man and a woman.

But the new rule made clear that a blessing of a same-sex couple was not the same as a marriage sacrament, a formal ceremonial rite. It also stressed that it was not blessing the relationship, and that, to avoid confusion, blessings should not be imparted during or connected to the ceremony of a civil or same-sex union, or when there are “any clothing, gestures or words that are proper to a wedding.”
As a recovering former Catholic, I personally wish we could dispense with the song-and-dance around what the blessing is and is not, and where it should or shouldn't be given. But (1) as a recovering former Catholic, I have no say in the matter or dog in the hunt, and (2) this is still a massive step in the right direction for an institution that needs more of those.

Which is the entire thing, right? Get helicopter parents to give you power based on "little Twyla shouldn't have to compete against Igor in the middle school pole vault!," and then use that power to edit some shit out of consciousness.

No wonder Mich is such a homer, and always seems so blissfully happy.

It turns out life in the state since the Michigan chapter of the Moms for Liberty Sex cult showed up, is like one long, slow moving orgy, from what I can gather:

The religion of MAGA believes this election will be their moment of retribution and Donald Trump their Sword of the Spirit. It’s long past time for Americans to overturn tables in this temple of idolatry.
