We won't just go to the OC tree and pluck a good one. That's why Z was named co-OC, no? Kotelnicki was a good one. The UCF game made that clear, when he tailored a play portfolio that suited Bean's strengths, allowed Bean to gain confidence, and avoided predictability/obvious tendencies.
Bean mostly got better as the season went on. Ballard didn't look "deer in the headlights" when he was the starter. All of that reflects well on Kotelnicki (and Leipold, of course). I think he'll be tough to replace.

I would say Coach Z definitely gets some credit for Ballard not being completely overmatched when he was needed.
