They offer no-sweats and boosts mostly just on parlays.
I will only F with those if I get a combo of things and if I can get the full deal on a 3 leg or less parlay.
If you get a no sweat or 100% boost on a single bet, that's where you should go for it.

Sportsbooks rake in from parlays bc they are just so damn hard to hit.

The "parlay insurance" angle can be good, too, depending on the minimum odds. If you can go as low as -500, such that you can have two pretty certain bets and one highly speculative one, you're in pretty decent shape I think.

I also like combos (e.g., one guy's combined points/assists/rebounds, or two guys' combined passing yards or whatever). I'm sure the math doesn't work out any better, but it certainly feels more sporting to have multiple ways to get to a result.

Same reason I don't really enjoy betting unders on individual things (like interceptions for example)...it's not fun to lose and be out of a bet seventeen minutes into watching a game.

Would it be crazy to put 5k on KU ML at home v Mizzou?

depends on if you have 5k to wager reasonably.

I fully expect to win but I always assume every gambling wager is a loss until proven otherwise.

What is the ML for that game currently?

I could be wrong but as of last night I don't believe there is/was a line yet.

To answer pdubs question... No, it would not be crazy if losing the 5K would have no bearing on how you live your life and if it wouldn't prevent you from doing or buying something else that makes you happy and gives you enjoyment.

I'm more of a high risk high reward person. Which as a gambler is a probably bad philosophy.
I probably wouldn't bet the 5K on a money line in which the return is less 2x the wager but to each their own.

I haven't seen the moneyline odds anywhere. Gonna be something like -850, right? That would mean something like a return of around $600?

If I were not at all interested in the game (say I had the level of interest I have in tonight's Army/Harvard game, which is where I grabbed this line), I'd do it.

But I would NOT for a game I care about, because I'll be plenty pissed off enough if KU loses...I don't need to add losing $5,000 to my pain.

I have 4k on Harvard tonight.

( note I am still in the honeymoon phase of the apps where they are giving me all these bonus deals so that doesn't mean as much as you think it does )

The bonus deals are, in relief, a picture of exactly how they keep the lights on in Vegas!

You just have to be even tempered and in control.
Unfortunately many aren't.
Even with the 4k bet tonight, regardless of what happens, i won't loose money.

I will gain a touch more if Harvard wins though.

What I meant was - if they can throw the bonuses around like candy, it tells you how insanely lucrative the general model is.

I may have told this story before, but I ran a bookie business in high school. Week 1 and 2 sucked...got our asses kicked. My partner dropped out I kept rolling. The rest of the year was pretty decently profitable for a teenager. Even had some teachers routinely betting with me.

I'd imagine kids these days would risk getting in significant more trouble than I was risking. not that it was a ton of money but still.

So the newspaper had some of the lines, I'd get up and copy some of those down each morning before school. There was a phone number you could call to had recorded lines. Then for the rest my buddy had the internet...Id be up at like 5:15 everyday to get everything set up before I had to leave for school at 6:45 We got internet later that year. Made things much easier.

For the local teams and some of my regulars favorite teams I would modify the lines to make them significantly more favorable for me. College basketball I knew more than most about and spent a ton of time watching it back then so I would modify lots of those lines based on my own opinions.

People got addicted, I would write out all my lines for the day and people would come grab it off my desk in class and pass it around the room and right down there bets and slip money in a provided envelope and it would work its way back to me. Hallways were busy times, my lines would be posted inside my locker and during breaks it'd be a stream of activity. My high school had like 1800 kids so plenty if cover.

One teacher took my list from me at the beginning of class and I thought I was gonna get busted. But he gave it back ay the end of class with a $50 bet. ha was a daily routine with him and a few other teachers.

I had everything written down in my betting book, old school style. My parents would sometimes wonder why I was so intently watching random games.....and checking hockey scores that I never cared about before.

Surprisingly I had very very little issue with payment or arguments. I cant remember exactly but I seem to recall I took a 10% vig.

The NCAA tourney I ran as a pool with no odds, then also had lines on each game for individual bets. The pool I took I believe 20% off the top for my efforts.
