It has nothing to do with votes. It's about the laws of our nation. You can either prove you deserve the loan and can pay it back or you don't. Whether you are awaiting a decision from a court on your immigration status has zero bearing on whether you can pay back a loan. It's amazing how stupid to the basic functionality of the law that you'll allow yourself to be to try to make your point.

Re: Uncle Joe
Agreed. "Illegals are getting stuff they shouldn't have" is chum to some that are intellectually lazy. You do not have to be a US citizen to get a loan in the US. You do not have to be a US citizen to open a small business in the US. You do not have to be a US citizen to pay taxes in the US. It's estimated that 20% of small business owners in the US are immigrants and that immigrants are 80% more likely to open a business than a US born citizen.DeletedUser wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2023 10:40 am Banks make loans to foreigners all the time.
This is one of those headlines meant to trigger the reader...and the target audience is a reader who only reads the headlines.
Re: Uncle Joe
the conversation centers around the "illegals." not the legals.
you must be too "intellectually lazy" to follow along. or are you just chumming the waters.

Meanwhile, the “let’s make things as miserable as possible for illegals so that they don’t want to be here in the first place” crowd puts ZERO thought into (even aside from, you know, basic humanity) what would happen across our ENTIRE economy if the illegals disappeared.twocoach wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2023 10:43 amIt has nothing to do with votes. Re: Uncle Joe
We have an acute trade labor shortage. So of course we should be all hyped up on immigration. Imagine waiting two years to get your roof fixed for $100,000. Win win, because, racism. But then the cost of services would be Biden's fault too.
Re: Uncle Joe
i can call around and have my roof done tomorrow. at a discount because it is winter.

Re: Uncle Joe
Mich, your world is actually inhabited by a significant number of immigrants spread out across the country harvesting food, doing hard jobs like roofing and construction. Car repair. Wait staff and cooks. Food processing workers. Child care. Now take those millions of people away. And give me a good estimate of when your roof will be in the queue.
Re: Uncle Joe
Maybe MICH should be more self-centered. Then he would more properly consider the effect on his personal finances and lifestyle of immigrants vaporizing.Sparko wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2023 12:19 pm Mich, your world is actually inhabited by a significant number of immigrants spread out across the country harvesting food, doing hard jobs like roofing and construction. Re: Uncle Joe
We moved into our new home in October last year. Part of the purchase was that a new roof had to be put on it. It didn't get completed until May of this year because the vast majority of roofing crews in our area go down south for the season doing work down there and there isn't enough labor to keep enough crews to handle the local work when the workers chase the higher volume of work down in warmer climates.
And yeah, the cost of the roof was pretty massive once they did find roll back into town to do the work.
Re: Uncle Joe
You're in Michigan. Most of the roofing companies in your area are down putting roofs on houses in Texas this time of year.

Sorry haters, but mortgage interest rates are now the lowest they've been since June, and falling...

Re: Uncle Joe
Nothing in that statement from the DoJ/CFPB says anything about "legal vs. illegal immigrants".
This is what you claimed: "So the biden administration threatened banks not to deny illegal immigrants loans based on their illegal status."
This is reality: "However, creditors should be aware that unnecessary or overbroad reliance on immigration status in the credit decisioning process, including when that reliance is based on bias, may run afoul of ECOA’s antidiscrimination provisions and could also violate other laws."
Banks should make their decision to deny a loan primarily due to their immigration status, whether they entered the country legally or illegally. It doesn't tell them not to deny them. It doesn't tell them they can't deny them. It says that a bank is risking being found guilty of civil rights violations if it is found to be basing their decision off of their immigration status. A legal/illegal immigrant can still have their loan application declined if they have the same financial risk of inability to repay the loan as an American citizen with an identical financial profile and the bank is at no risk of legal/civil punishment.
You are 100% WRONG on what was said and who it targeted. It was not specific to illegal immigrants. It was specific to ANY and ALL immigrants. It's no different than reminding banks that they cannot decline loans primarily because of race/sex/gender. A person's immigration status has nothing to do with their ability to repay a loan.

Twocoach: great post.

Thanks again, President Brandon!
Sorry haters, but inflation is down more than expected, and income, i.e., "real wages", are rising faster than inflation:
