'86 Civic, which I'm pretty sure couldn't compete at go-kart places now. You win.

95 Chevy Astro Van

at least when my mom would let me drive it, which wasn’t often.

Despite working since age 13 and having enough saved up for my own first car once I got a driver’s license, my parents forbade me from getting my own…but that’s for another thread

First car was a 1980 Pontiac Firebird Formula. Beautiful car, black with silver on the bottom. Had it a year and a half until it was t-boned from a kid from Derby, KS after he ran a red light. Ended up buying a 1986 Honda CRX SI my Senior year and drove it all through my KU days.

I weirdly had 2 cars while at KU. A ‘78 280Z and a ‘79 280ZX.

not the first such incident I've read about.

Demanding that everyone drive electric vehicles isnt the answer until the required massive infrastructure updates are already in place.

Agreed. I think some self-charging rail or road system is the only practical solution. At least to major cities.

This’ll require collective, unified action. And some sacrifice by all.

So, ah, never-o-clock.

we can't even maintain the infrastructure we have in place. Many of our bridges are relics and are failing. Not sure where in my lifetime we will find the time or funding to undertake the massive tasks ahead to not only repair our infrastructure but to also upgrade it. Meanwhile, our labor force is aging and there are only a fraction of young apprentices coming into trades to replace the retirees. Thats a lot of knowledge leaving alwoth very little real ability to replace it.

But, instead of addressing all, or any, of that, instead we will wave wands and demand all vehicles be electric and cheer and pat ourselves on the back for our progress and leadership. All while creating massive issues down river with no plan of attack.

Seems like it will go well.

Interesting approach to extinguishing a lithium-ion electric car fire.

...Fire Investigators determined the fire started in a 2019 Jaguar I-PACE that was charging when the fire occurred. A recall was issued for the I-PACE last year after a battery overheating issue caused fires
