KU players who transferred
Re: KU players who transferred
I won't argue with MICH there.
Re: KU players who transferred
He'd be even better now. In the middle of this version of Bill's stuff.

I'm not there. Julian was better than Kj.jfish26 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 1:43 pmKJ is what Julian could have been.Overlander wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 1:33 pmI do not miss the version of Julian that jumped 8 feet in the air, and THEN tried to figure out what to do with the ball.
EJ had that same flaw from time to time....and Tyshawn to some degree.

until he went god-cray
(edit: i absolutely prefer KJ’s defense)

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

Based on what we've seen since their time at KU I'd order the following:randylahey wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 2:03 pm There's a difference between being the most talented forward self has had and being a high usage upperclassmen. Simien, trob, morris, wilson... loved all those guys. But none were better than shady. Arthur was a freak athlete that had a polished offensive package even in college. He was touch to stop on the block or with his jumper, and used his incredible leaping ability to block shots and dunk on people. Also had quicker feet than any of those guys
1. Marcus
2. Markieff
3. DA
4. TRob
5. JW
Marcus and Markieff's NBA careers speak for themselves. They are the most talented of the players listed.
Shady played in 503 NBA games and started 106 games.
TRob played in 313 games and started 12 of those games.
Julian Wright played in 231 games and started 40 of those games.

Better than this KJ? Man, I don’t think so.DeletedUser wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 5:10 pmI'm not there. Julian was better than Kj.jfish26 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 1:43 pmKJ is what Julian could have been.Overlander wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 1:33 pm

Julian was drafted 13th. I think he's better individually.
Kj is fantastic. He is also very lucky to have been surrounded with the guys he's been surrounded by because he is extremely offensively limited.
Re: KU players who transferred
Hard to say how much of that draft spot is attributable to high school hype. I personally think KJ is more impactful now than Julian ever was in college.DeletedUser wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 5:59 pmJulian was drafted 13th. I think he's better individually.

If Simien isn’t in the top 5 of this list I can’t take it seriously. How someone has done in their NBA career doesn’t mean they were the best player in their time at Kansas.DeletedUser wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 5:18 pmBased on what we've seen since their time at KU I'd order the following:randylahey wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 2:03 pm There's a difference between being the most talented forward self has had and being a high usage upperclassmen. I was ranking their talent and NBA success does reflect their talent.pdub wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 7:21 pmIf Simien isn’t in the top 5 of this list I can’t take it seriously. And I wasn't counting Simien as Self era since he was a Roy recruit.
Re: KU players who transferred
We are talking talent while at KU.
Grimes wasn’t as talented at his peak at KU as Releford was at his peak.
If we are talking simply athleticism, that’s different story.

Re: KU players who transferred
Who is your overall most talented basketball player in the self era? Embiid? He’s got the edge on Wiggins?DeletedUser wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 8:11 pmMy bad then. I wasn't. I was just talking overall talent at basketball.
To you is there a difference between the "best while at KU" and "most talented at basketball"? To me there is.
Re: KU players who transferred
Talent can change over time in my opinion. Like by a lot. Most talented at their peak at basketball then I mostly agree with your list. Most talent potential then I don’t—TRob would be on the top of that chart for me.DeletedUser wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 8:11 pmMy bad then. I wasn't. I was just talking overall talent at basketball.

Wiggins would be my vote I think. Embiid hadn’t developed but had shown flashes.columbusdjkc wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 10:11 pmWho is your overall most talented basketball player in the self era? Talent is far different than best player though and I don’t think Wiggins breaks my top 10 there.

Wiggins was extremely athletic and we tend to equate that with "potential", but to me talent also includes other things like skill and work ethic.
Self era I'd probably rank them (off the top of my head with little thought):
1. Embiid
2. Wiggins
3. Marcus
But again, I am not basing my rankings solely on time at KU. If I were those 3 would probably be in reverse order as Marcus had the best career at KU.

Your boy from a couple years ago was sort of like a Wayne starter kit.

Arthur had an Achilles tear that derailed his nba career. He was a similar player to the twins, but more athleticDeletedUser wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 5:18 pmBased on what we've seen since their time at KU I'd order the following:randylahey wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 2:03 pm There's a difference between being the most talented forward self has had and being a high usage upperclassmen. Julian Wright was an enigma. Freakishly athletic. Jack of all trades but master of none. He was juat ahead of his time and could've been perfect for position less basketball if he could shoot it better. For a big he sure could handle it and pass for that time
