When it gets down to it, the real GOP platform seems to be "whatever Dem voters want, we want the opposite". It's fundamentally hypocritical and ignorant and results in nothing getting done to help anything or anyone.

That is categorically false. There is ample middle ground to be had where work is put in to figure out how to limit the ability of mentally unstable people, along with people who have active restraining orders etc... from purchasing weapons without impacting the ability of the generic public in getting weapons whatsoever. You can also limit the sales of certain types of weapons and accessories without limiting a person's ability to buy A weapon.randylahey wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 5:08 pmThe GOP platform isn't shooting people. The GOP platform is that that ANY attempt to pass ANY gun legislation is an attack on EVERYONE'S rights to buy ANY weapons. It's a straight up lie but it works on people like you who will believe just about anything that supports your arguments.

In order to save gun ownership, it was necessary to kill 1000s randomly with them.

Well, I have found many/most people who have lost loved ones to "gun violence" tend to want stricter gun laws/control. Many/most of those who haven't, tend to not. Therefore, I say let's hope more people get killed with/by "gun violence".
Not a "mass" shooting but a Cop was just shot a block away from my office.
Shame they couldn't have waited 3 hours so it could/would be another gun shot victim I could/would have seen in person. The hits just keep on coming.

Doesn’t matter that assault rifles are shit home defense.
Doesn’t matter that the statistics bear out that homes with guns are more dangerous.
Doesn’t matter that the 2A, right there on paper, confers a qualified (not unlimited) right.
Doesn’t matter that the math means that the more guns in circulation, the cheaper and easier to get they are, by people everyone agrees shouldn’t have them.
Doesn’t matter that a bad guy with an AR can do so much more damage than a bad guy without one.
None of these things matters.
What matters is how the fuck your feelings crowd feels.
Re: Another mass shooting
The people in charge of messaging for such issues have found that if they tie their issues to their supporters religion, their children or their patriotism/freedom that they will be convinced that no one can question how irrational they are and that no one can make any changes to any laws that may affect them. GOP politicians now try to tie virtually everything to those three pillars.

Let me ask you this, are you opposed to making it more difficult for people (both good people and bad people) to obtain guns? If so, why?

No, we're saying that the goal is not to restrict a random person's right to defend themselves. I am perfectly fine with sane, responsible people owning certain types of weapons to use in whatever legal fashion they want.randylahey wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2024 7:56 amAre you saying these shootings are imaginary?Overlander wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 5:15 pmAh yes, the boogeyman under the bedrandylahey wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 5:08 pm

The purpose of the weapon is right there in the name. It is an offensive weapon. A highly effective one, obviously!
But, it is not what most people who have handled weapons a lot (myself included) would choose for home defense (in the context of just a normal, bring, regular urban or suburban home (or even apartment or condo)).
I cannot believe I have to do this, but: I think we would agree there are three broad categories of legal firearms in the United States: handguns, shotguns and rifles.
Of the three, two are CLEARLY best-suited for home defense. Handguns (because of higher capacity, weight, maneuverability and ease of storage) and shotguns (because of dispersal of shot). Rifles have the drawbacks of shotguns (weight, maneuverability and relative difficulty of storage), without the dispersal-of-shot benefit.
The only real, material advantage an assault rifle has over a shotgun in this context is higher capacity...but that is not an advantage with such real-life-scenario meaning that it's worth picking over a handgun (if you want capacity) or a shotgun.
Indeed, if you want to see where assault rifles really shine, you'd have to ask the thousands of ordinary Joes and Janes (children included) whose torsos and heads have been hollowed out by assailants with assault rifles.
Why does this matter so much? Why do the wacky libs like me (and my guns) keep coming back to this point?
Because the fact that lunatics like you look to unfettered access to assault rifles as something like a sacred entitlement - "taking them" being a line that must NEVER be crossed - makes plain that this is purely an emotional issue for you.
And I'm really, really fucking tired at instance after instance of children being hollowed out in service of your fragile, insecure, weak bullshit.

Jesus Christ, take a few deep breaths. If literally all you have is taking a swing at a gotcha that isn't even there...just admit this is about emotion for you, and nothing more.
