Guns owned by citizens are not at all the reason people don't invade the US. Don't just make shot up because it sounds good. A buncha untrained idiots with guns accomplishes nothing but becoming collateral damage when the actual trained professionals show up to handle things. Restricting access to military style assault rifles and high capacity magazines is intended to try to reduce mass shooting incidents where large amounts of people uninvolved in an incident are targeted to be murdered.
Restricting access to any weapons, be they handguns or long guns, by people with known mental health issues or documented domestic violence cases/situations is intended to cut down on the total volume of deaths by guns, including those by handguns.

This just isn't that complicated to understand. Putting seatbelts in cars wasn't about controlling the public. Nor are speed limits. Not are drunk driving restrictions, etc... it is an effort to address a problem where citizens are proving unable to control or avoid the problems themselves.
Handguns are responsible for significantly more gun deaths and more mass shootings. Fact check it. Significantly more.

It's not about logic or safety. It's about control. Just consider that.

If our government cared about our safety, we wouldn't sell food with preservatives that are banned in other countries

You completely ignored what I wrote.

Do you think that laws that restricted access to weapons, including handguns, for mentally ill people or people with documented domestic violence charges or restraining orders would reduce the number of gun deaths by handguns?

YES

Do you think that laws that required better safety training and storage for all gun owners would reduce the number of accidental deaths/suicides by all guns, including handguns?

ALSO YES

Over and over again, your leading argument in support of unfettered access to assault rifles is your opinion that people should not call them assault rifles.

Meanwhile some 19 year old Army kids are sitting in a room in the desert plucking off invaders using drones like a video game while MICH's militia is fumbling around trying to figure how to pull their tactical gear on over their beer bellies.

What's sad is that you A) believe that's true and B) believe that funding is what is preventing GOP politicians from voting for gun legislation.

JFC you're a moron.
AR is not short for "armalite". It's short for ArmaLite RIFLE.
Some guns are classified as being assault rifles.

Let me ask you a question. I walk in to your house. You have 50 guests in your house. I want to shoot and kill you and all 50 of your guests.
I have a handgun with 12 bullets/rounds and I have a "higher powered gun" with 100 bullets/rounds.
Which do you think you and your 50 guests stand a better chance of surviving?

Depends, how would you rate your mental health? Are there good guys with guns? Why didn't they harden the entrances? Don't you know there are retired veterans who need jobs?

There are so many questions and variables, I think we should just do nothing.
