The Maui invitational will tell us a lot about this team.

we're gonna have some great games
we're gonna have some terrible games in November and December.
we're gonna start getting it together in conference season
we're gonna have a 2 or 3 game stretch in February where we look like shit. Everybody is gonna panic.

we'll pull it together and win the conference and end up with a 1 seed.

the tourney is the tourney beyond that.

business as usual.

I don't think we should be. Uconn has a lot coming back, I think. We have a lot of new pieces. And uncertain depth

But. Self has a fucking juggernaut of a roster. Watch out

not sure if it’s funny or sad how truly predictable most teams’ trajectories are

KANSAS CLEAR NO. 1 IN PRESEASON MEN’S AP TOP 25; DUKE, PURDUE SECOND AND THIRD

Bill Self likes to remind his team that the faces may change at Kansas but the expectations within his program never do.

Expectations outside the program? Turns out they are as high as possible this year.

The Jayhawks were the clear No. 1 pick in the AP Top 25 preseason men’s basketball poll released Monday, earning 46 of 63 first-place votes to easily outdistance No. 2 Duke and No. 3 Purdue. It’s the third time since Self’s arrival in Lawrence in 2003 that his team will start the season on top but the first time since the 2018-19 season.

"You know you’ll have a target on your back playing at Kansas," said Kevin McCullar Jr., who decided to return for a second season with the Jayhawks and fifth in college hoops. "We’ll have that chip on our shoulder, you know, prove everybody wrong, and state why you should be the No. 1 team in the nation. You go out there and use that. You use that as fuel every day."…

Percentage of voters who can't name 4 players on the roster?
I'm going with 50%. Higher or lower?

At some point Houston will have to move up to no. 1 if they keep winning.

At some point either Purdue will lose or Houston will play someone who warrants moving them up to #1 by beating. They have back to back road games @Iowa State and @TCU that probably won't move the needle on them if Purdue keeps winning but that will be challenging. Houston's toughest stretch will be late January/early February with back to back road games @Texas and @Kansas.

i think they’ve got the tougher road, on paper

i’d be curious, though, what everyone thinks about the familiarity aspect. does it make a difference?
