NFL Offseason 2024

Post by twocoach »

Didn't really want to put this in the Chiefs thread so I started this one. It's a spot to track offseason roster moves and NFL rule changes.

Saw this today and thought it was interesting. Might be a safer way to return the kick return to the NFL game. What do you think?

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl- ... -kickoffs/

"The kicker stands by himself at the 30-yard while his other 10 teammates stand at the opponents' 35-yard line. The receiving team has to put 10 players at their own 30-yard line -- just five yards away from the kicking team's players -- and then one player is lined up deep to receive the kick. No one is allowed to move until the returner has fielded the kick."

Personally, I'd be ok scrapping the whole thing.

Or just bring it back as it was.
It ruled.

The NFL would like to not be sued for a zillion dollars by rolling back to a play that they know causes more head injuries. I doubt we ever see kick returns in their original form again.

Right. My opinion is that if we're going to effectively provide for touchbacks at the kicking team's discretion, let's just dispense with what amounts to 3-5ish dead minutes per score.

In that case the NFL should just revert to flag football if they are concerned about head injuries.

I think it's silly the NFL could be sued for head injuries. Nobody is forcing anyone to play football.

I think it's silly that someone could sue McDonalds for not specifically telling them that their hot coffee was in fact hot but here we are.

The issue there was the coffee was not hot, but actially dangerously hot. Skin grafts hot

So, what is Chiago going to do with their #1 overall pick and QB Justin Fields:

1) Stick with Justin Fields and trade the pick
2) Stick with Justin Fields and draft a non-QB
3) Trade Justin Fields and draft Caleb Williams #1 overall (who I personally don't think is a going to be a great NFL QB)
4) Trade Justin Fields and draft some other QB

I think they should do 1 since I think the trade compensation is going to be very high.
I bet they do 3.

Based on their history of doing what turns out to be the wrong thing, I agree with you that #3 is the most likely.

"Chris Jones, DT, Kansas City Chiefs
It would cost the Chiefs more than $32 million to franchise tag Jones this year, which would significantly hurt their ability to do basically anything else this offseason. They need to bring in offensive tackles, and they have other players on defense to sign. They should probably spend to sign a wide receiver one of these days, too."

I would be trying ASAP to find if anyone would have interest in giving a conditional 2nd ( plays 9 games or something )/ otherwise 3rd round pick to 'win' the rights to a franchise tagged Chris Jones...instead of a bidding war with other teams, you are guaranteed Jones for a 2nd rounder.

Chiefs absolutely ended up doing the right thing and not budging this year...but now it's just not gonna work again and they have to try and get something out of it.
