2023/2024 NCAA Season
Re: 2023/2024 NCAA Season
Some of these reactions are so, can I say, boomer?
Ban each student from attending any sporting related activity?
Fuck off you olds.

Re: 2023/2024 NCAA Season
A 45 second delay in the court storm would eliminate all of this. When it becomes obvious it is going to happen, let the other team get to the tunnel, then let the students run on the court and jump around.
I don't know. I think it's sort of a dumb practice. But I get it.
Not sure we need court storming everytime a top 10 team takes an L on the road to an underdog though.
#1 team in the country? Sure, I get it.
Every single time Duke or KU goes down? Nah, dumb. Too much.
Wake was favored by 2.5pts in the game. It wasn't even an upset. And duke is ranked 8th. Not even a top 3 team.
Re: 2023/2024 NCAA Season
Right.
That’s embarrassing.
But I don’t think it should be banned.
Punish the students who make contact with the players for sure. You could ban those students for life, even if the contact is incidental, I’m in full support of that.
In the whole, over the course of season after season of court storming, is this Duke flopper pretending he’s out for the season the worst thing that’s happened? Why are the olds so up in arms? Angry at fun?

Eventually some player is going to punch a fan. Or a fan punch a player. It's already happened after football games. At least those guys have pads on. The point being that neither players nor fans should be in this interaction. Sure, it would be great if every school actually had functioning security that allowed the opposition to leave the court. But that clearly doesn't seem to be the case. We keep pushing the boundaries in all sorts of aspects of civilization. "It's fun, it's fine. You're just a hater".KUTradition wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 6:02 pmit honestly kinda looks like the dookie stuck his foot out and tried to push the GT fanDeletedUser wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 5:09 pmI agree court storming should be bannedtwocoach wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 5:06 pm Duke's Kyle Filipowski sprains his ankle after contact with Georgia Tech fans that stormed the court after GA. Ban court storming. Ban any student that goes out in the court from all school athletic events. Enough of this. Players belong on the court, not the stands. Fans belong in the stands, not the court.
I think he definitely got slammed into.
I think he probably was a bit dramatic with it. Almost in tears being carried into the tunnel.
The kid who ran into him went flying. Sorta looked like he tripped him to me. But I haven't seen zoomed in slowmo yet.
But, since it's Duke, it'll probably be changed tomorrow.
Everything's fine until it's not and then it's too late.

I think court storming should happen a few times a year max. Not 50 times a year.
There aren't that many worthy upsets.
It needs to be special. Not a routine thing.

“ Everything's fine until it's not and then it's too late.”
Again students have court rushed for decades. There’s probably been more than 10,000 court/field rushes. Spare me this “something could go wrong!” just because a Duke player committed a game ending turnover, was upset about it and then exaggerated an injury just so something like this could happen later.
Let students be students.
Nothing drastic needs to change because a Dukies feelings wuz hwuwt.

The systems analyst part of my brain says "Because we've always done it that way" is a lousy reason to keep doing something.pdub wrote: ↑Sun Feb 25, 2024 8:41 am “ Everything's fine until it's not and then it's too late.”

Thank god systems analysts aren’t in charge because fun would be policed to death.
Congratulations on making it to the Final Four you young people. Now proceed home to your dormitories and get a good rest because you have homework to do tomorrow.

Like with everything, even the smartest college aged kids tend to get carried away when the opportunity to be crazy in a mob presents itself.DeletedUser wrote: ↑Sun Feb 25, 2024 7:50 am I think court storming should happen a few times a year max. Not 50 times a year.

Which just makes my point.

Then punish THOSE students.
Give them disorderly conduct violations in “real” life and bans from watching sports in “college” life.

Re: 2023/2024 NCAA Season
All the students at Kansas seem to have a blast after big wins without running out on the court. I am sure you wouldn't be here policing them screaming "we don't do that at Kansas" if KU fans stormed the court after beating Houston a few weeks ago...
Re: 2023/2024 NCAA Season
I’d be upset they were rushing.
I wouldn’t want to ban them from doing so.

Re: 2023/2024 NCAA Season
I rushed the field on a couple occasions after big KU wins when I was a student and in my 20s.
It was fun.
It was fun.
Re: 2023/2024 NCAA Season
Then we disagree, no worries. I doubt the NCAA does anything other than suggest that the ACC impose a fine like most of the other conferences do.
Re: 2023/2024 NCAA Season
My kid rushed out onto the field after a football win (back when a win over D2 South Dakota was a big win). She said it was fun. I left AFH and celebrated out in town after big KU wins. It was fun, too.
Re: 2023/2024 NCAA Season
Yes.
But it was extra fun after beating ksu for the first time in forever to run on the field and take the posts to potter.
Because it’s a fun tradition.
And we were students.

Re: 2023/2024 NCAA Season
Some sort of system/security to give players and coaches a bit of time to get to the sidelines and outta there I have no issues with.
I’d also try and find any fan who was a total asshole ( running up right in a players face ) and try and identify them.
It should be clear the storm is to celebrate not to taunt. And if you’re identified as taunting then it’s no sports watching for you.

Re: 2023/2024 NCAA Season
i’m just happy to be a fan of a team that’ll seemingly never be in a position where a court rush seems reasonable
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: 2023/2024 NCAA Season
There’s an overhead video of Flip flopping.
The first student tries to avoid him and he half ass tries to shove him away and even looks to pull a Grayson Allen with an oops I didn’t mean to trip him. Instead of trying to avoid the student he leans into him and pushes ( albeit weakly ). That’s where the initial contact happens. Then some asshole student sees that and “pushes” ( not really a push more of a hand place ) Flip in the back and he makes a meal of it.
Watch yourself.

Re: 2023/2024 NCAA Season
And even now, after the last season or two, I wouldn't think it was fitting for the field to be stormed for anything short of upsetting a top 2 or 3 ranked team.
