Re: B12 2024
LOL....anything beyond good college player seems a bit optimistic for Elmarko at this point.
Not a great ballhandler. Below average shooter.
College monster, I don't see it yet. But if he starts shooting high 30s% from 3pt he has the physical size/tools.
So did Anrio Adams.

Looking at the remaining matchups, we actually might end up being the 6 seed in KC.
Grossness.

Yeah, I just don't get it. I honestly wonder if we expected him to keep growing. If he doesn't dramatically improve his shooting, he profiles as "good college player" at best.DeletedUser wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2024 10:17 am LOL....anything beyond good college player seems a bit optimistic for Elmarko at this point.

Re: B12 2024
Elmarkos freshman year stacks up just fine against frank, devonte, tyshawn, EJ. They all turned out pretty good. Not sure why people are so down on elmarkos future right now, maybe unrealistic expectations coming into the season

You're really doing this again?randylahey wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2024 10:38 am Elmarkos freshman year stacks up just fine against frank, devonte, tyshawn, EJ. They all turned out pretty good. To even be compared to Frank and Devonte means something has gone terribly wrong. That's the emergency parachute.
Tyshawn was nails - wild and nuts and loose, but nails - as a lower-recruited freshman. You could see it with him right away, and you can see next to nothing in Jackson so far, despite tons of opportunity.
Elijah is probably the best comp...but that means you would agree that his ceiling is "good college player" (and he didn't get to that ceiling until he was a junior and he became an adequate shooter).
It's really really really un-good for these to be the comps.
Re: B12 2024
the best thing about freshmen is they become sophmores. lets just hope our freshmen become sophmores at KANSAS and not somewhere else.

Re: B12 2024
And it's not that EJ wasn't a good college player.
But Elmarko was billed as the future KU PG and I am now convinced he's probably a non shooting SG. His handle isn't that tight. He creates best for himself, not others.
Love his size, speed, and attitude.
Don't love another non shooter.
Re: B12 2024
Exactly. If we're already at "maybe if he finds an adequate shot, he will be a good college player," we're in a very disappointing spot.DeletedUser wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2024 10:51 amAnd it's not that EJ wasn't a good college player.

Re: B12 2024
makes no sense to give up on a kid in his freshman season.
Re: B12 2024
Are there still games going on?
I thought the season was over already.

Not giving up on him at all.
But 23-24 has been ruined by, more than anything else, bad bets on Morris and Jackson.
Doesn't make me feel better here on March 5 to think that maybe someday Jackson could be good enough to be a 3rd-6th guy on a good team.

Freshman seasons:
Frank - 16 mpg 5.5pts 2 ast
Devonte - 18 mpg 5.7 pts 2 ast
Elmarko - 18.6 mpg 4.2 pts 2 ast
Wrong again fish. All very similar
Frank and devonte played on much younger teams so you'd expect their role and numbers to be bigger

Re: B12 2024
Also tyshawn was not "lower recruited"
He was a top 100 guy who's final list was kansas, Texas, Florida, GT, and VT. He played on an absolute power house high school team.
He was a more sought after recruit than either frank or devonte, who committed to smaller schools and were late bloomers
The point is elmarko is doing just fine. He's a hard worker, who's going to be a really good college player. And maybe play pro. He has the size and athletic ability for it
Devonte is still a pro, and I promise you nobody thought after his freshman year he was heading that way

Re: B12 2024
The bad bet was on morris. Jackson wasn't a bad bet, just idiot fans expecting too much of a high rated freshman that didn't even really get into basketball until his sophomore year of high school. I tried to tell yall before the season.
Hell I have that argument every off-season on this board. Temper expectations for freshman. Most of them need time to develop. Especially the ones that are obviously raw athletes
Re: B12 2024
I agree that we should temper expectations on freshman but illy's point still stands.
He doesn't look like a point guard.

Re: B12 2024
You are missing the point. It is very very BAD for someone with Jackson's recruiting profile to perform like freshmen with Mason's and Graham's recruiting profile.randylahey wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2024 11:07 am Freshman seasons:

It is nice, I suppose, that there are reasons to be hopeful for Jackson's future. But he was recruited to help NOW, the roster was built around him contributing NOW, and he sucks NOW. This is NOW.

Re: B12 2024
It's bad to be compared to compared to 2 first team all Americans who both played in the nba? Both won big 12 POY. Frank was national POYjfish26 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2024 11:25 amYou are missing the point. Jackson was the #20 recruit on RSCI.
Tyshawn was #73.
That's just a different WORLD when it comes to what you should reasonably expect from a guy as a freshman. And Tyshawn was MUCH MUCH MUCH better as a freshman than Jackson is now (and Jackson has had EVERY opportunity - this is not a case of a guy getting buried).
Elijah is clearly the best comparison for Jackson's profile and trajectory. And that is an outcome that is sub-standard for guys of that sort of pedigree.
Again, I am not saying he can't be useful. But "useful, someday" is a horrendous outcome for a guy Bill bet a LOT on this season.
