Basically the Chiefs gave Chris Jones the Aaron Donald contract. Aaron got 3 years 95 million and this is the same. The only thing the five years can do is spread out the cap hit on signing bonus. Have to see details of contract but if he gets $50 million this year but it is signing bonus then that gets spread out over 5 years and then his cap hit is only $10 million for this year.

Plenty of money this year for OT and some vets who want to chase a ring.

So much for signing a WR.

It's the worst news of the day
I think Chris Jones returning gives the Chiefs a better shot a threepeat than any free agent WR signing.

it seems to me that the options for success at receiver, when Mahomie is the qb, are much more plentiful than for the D line…this last year proved as much
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

And the impact of a great WR are far smaller than that of a great DT.

Careful, you'll rad pdub's depression.

I assume we will see the Sneed trade soon. A Mahomes restructure would also help free up some cap space to fill out the roster. But so far, an excellent offseason for KC.

In this offseason signing Chris Jones before tomorrow at noon when he can start talking to other teams was priority number one. Had to happen and it did. This signing is not going to make the Chiefs better but will keep the defense productive.

Yet the most glaring deficiency on this team was WR. If you give Mahomes weapons we going to score a lot more points. Kelce is 34 and we need to take the pressure off him for the future.

He held the negotiating ground.
I’m glad he’s back - it just takes a lot of our cap away for the next few years.

A Sneed trade would help free some of that.

Yes we have to trade Sneed by Wednesday at 4pm or his tag is part of our cap until the trade.

Going to be a lot of cuts by teams to get to the cap.

I can see the Charges dumping Mike Williams.

Chris Jones' Chiefs Extension
5 years, $158.75M
$60M guaranteed at sign
$35M more by March '25
$31.35M in 2024
3 years, $95.3M practical

Cap Hits
2024: $7.35M
2025: $34.85M
2026: $41.1M
2027: $34.35M
2028: $41.1M

Yes, you read that right. Just $7.35 million against the cap next season.

I guess after 3 years there’s an out that would just incur 12 million in dead cap.

It’s a good hit for next year and the year after but solid deal.

Jones cap hit next year 35 mill.
Year after 41.
I know the cap will increase each season but I do wonder about Nick Bolton and Creed Humphrey for next year at this point.

Would you do this?

Swap 1st and 2nd's with Zona for Sneed?
Jump to 27th and 35th.
Loose 32 and 64.

They need a corner, we need to shed his contract, and now we have two picks in the top 35 in a season with lots of WR talent in that range.

Or would you rather the rumor of getting Detroit's 2nd ( 61st ) just straight up?

With as deep as this draft is on WR, and with us having relatively few picks for various reasons, I'd rather have Detroit's 2nd straight up (although I'd think you could squeeze them for at least a 5th or future 4th).

I would probably agree with you but I think Buffalo will be WR hunting.
I'd just like to be out in front there.

The wildcard there is whether you think Rice represents a turned corner (from the eval misses on Hardman, Moore and Toney), or whether we just got lucky.

The problem all those guys is there were better chances of whiffing than hitting.
Toney cost a 3rd round pick.
The other two were mid/late 2nds ( of course here is the obligatory pdub was loosing his shit when the Chiefs picked Hardman over DK Metcalf ).

Here we'd be likely spending 1st round capital with a better success rate...some of these guys just stud athletes.
