Next year we don't want KJ playing a single minute of center. But sadly it's his best position offensively because he's basically just a dunker and pick and roll guy

He NEEDS to develop a shot, if we are to excel playing him 30 minutes a game

I think his best position offensively is the at 3 or the 4, but playing inside. You don't have to be at the 5 to score inside. He's averaging 12pts per game and hasn't hit a shot outside the lane all year.

I think a big defensive 5 can easily neutralize Kj for the exact reason you want him at the 5, because he can't shoot. They'll just sag off the ball screen and stay between him and the basket. Contain him early, challenge late. Especially because the other guy in the ball screen typically (DH) also isn't going to shoot much.

But, just my opinion.

If he could shoot yeah. But he can't. To play on the perimeter, shooting is a must. Otherwise teams can sag off and it handicaps your offense

A 5 will sag off him too

Basically if KJ doesn't develop a shot, he's going to have weaknesses and be a tweener no matter where you try to play him. I've been saying for awhile no, an undersized forward who can't shoot is problematic

Elite basketball teams do not start 6'7 guys at center.

I'm sure there is an example. But we shouldn't have to start Kj at the 5. If we do, things are going awful on the roster management side of things.

And yes, his shooting is a problem at any position.

Elite basketball don't play 6'7 guys that can shoot at any position for big minutes

KJ is a really good player with a major wart that is a major handicap and hard to build around.

Pray he makes big offseason strides with his jumper

Yes. From 0% 3pt to maybe 20% 3pt.

What’s the scholarship scene look like even if no one with remaining eligibility leaves

Super duper senior:
Harris

Super senior:
Dickinson

Regular old senior:
Adams

Redshirt junior:
Clemence

Sophomore:
Furphy
Jackson
McDowell

With McCullar, Braun, Timberlake all outta eligibility

Incoming freshies:
Bubinga
Passmore
Philon

So that’s 10 scholarships? Assuming no one bails. How many are we down still from the F the NCAA thread bullshit?

I think we have 12....or 13, because we don't have to lose a scholarship this year. We can choose to lose the last remaining penalty scholarship next year I believe. 3 years to lose 3 and we took 2 off this year

Thanks for clarifying, tdub.

I keep seeing Furphy like early 20s draft stock, and if that holds, you gotta figure he gone.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love him back! But also think it’s good for Self to put yet another wing in the NBA, and we’ll reload and be fine.

But even if we keep all 10 currently still eligible on the roster, that leaves 2-3 to add.

And I kinda wonder if it’s worth trying to keep as many of the 10 in a bird-in-the-hand kinda way, versus last year’s strategy of cleaning house in hopes of two-in-the-bush via the portal.

And man when I put it that way it kinda sounds like a comment about fingerblasting.

It sounds like the Liam McNeeley decision has been put on hold...I wonder how much of that has to do with Furphy...obviously McNeeley probably isn't coming to Lawrence if Johnny is still around.

I want em both.

Let’s get our own splash brothers.

Again, nothing about fingerblasting.

I dint understand why, he would play fine next to Johnny. I think that'd be ideal in fact. 2 6'8ish 3pt shooters on the wings? with Dajuan runnin point and KJ with the PnR short roll in the middle and Flory causing havoc on the baseline. Can't sag of McNeeley or Furphy. I'd be ok with that

Kids these days.

I am sure Bidunga is still talking to other schools too in case HD returns.

I think the assumption was McNeeley was a heavy KU lean at time of decommittment simply because we a finalist the first time around. From some of the stuff I've read his options are wide open and it's not just KU and then everybody else.

We've also made offers to or been in contact with 2 or 3 upperclassmen wings via tranfer portal.

I thought I read an article somewhere where Flory said he was looking forward to the mentoring he would potentially receive from Dickinson.

Probably more to it than just that. We are about to see literally thousands of players enter the transfer portal. He probably wants a better idea what rosters are going to look like and where he would fit in. I'm sure KU is in as good a position as anyone, but there is no way he's not weighing other options too

Supposedly elmarko has zero interest in entering the portal and is committed to returning to KU

The season isn't over. What other answer could he possibly have given?

Teams will make a go at him. Regardless of portal status. I think it makes sense for him to stay.....unless he gets beaten out by the new freshman and/or gets recruited over by transfers, then maybe he should go.

We'll know a lot more about how this team will look in the next 6-8 weeks.
