This post illuminates one of your many defects on this subject.

You fail to grasp that this isn't 1791. We don't burn witches at the stake, we don't use leeches as medical treatment. We have indoor plumbing. We have made trains into rollercoasters for our motherfucking enjoyment.

We do not need armed protection from the government. No matter HOW horny you are for that not to be true, it simply is true.

And the single most obvious way for it to BECOME true, sadly, is if regurgitating morons convince enough hungry morons that what is true is not true, and we give the keys to our country to those who would, for example, institutionalize trans people.

HEY!
Let's compare the average citizen in the United States to soldiers fighting an invader in a war ravaged country.

The citizens of Ukraine literally just needed ar15s to protect themselves from an invading government

Similar (sort of) to how 2024 is not 1791, America is not Ukraine, and Canada is not Russia.

This is basic stuff.

Being concerned whether our citizens having assault rifles would help stop an invasion would be similar to being concerned if Dillon Wilhite was ready to start in the NCAA tournament if we needed him.

If we need Dillon Wilhite in a big game, we're probably already fucked.

There’s an ironic parallel - for there, like here, and for that matter all the other parts of the world we’ve flooded with weapons…

the weapons are difficult to account for, for all we know may end up in the wrong hands*, and aren’t necessarily being used, or used effectively, in the “good guy” sort of way the rhetoric suggests.

But I know I’ve said too much, and prob gonna regret this post.

*have we ever even confirmed precisely who gave all those weapons to Hamas?

Randy's going to tell you that was a tangent, and he's going to come back to needing to be armed for protection against our own government.

Of course, the Randies of the world have eagerly ensured that any horny local police department has ample access to the sort of equipment and materiel that would make the guns in my or anyone's safe absolutely meaningless.

The fundamental problem Randy cannot solve is that people keep demonstrating, over and over and over and over, that we as a society cannot be trusted with assault rifles. They simply allow ONE bad guy to do WAY TOO MUCH harm, harm that is self-evidently NOT prevented by any number of good guys with any number of guns, and harm that is self-evidently NOT limited to "thugs" or "bad guys" or "self-defense" or what the hell ever.

And unfortunately, the way a society works is that we all suffer limitations on our personal freedoms when enough of us demonstrate that we are incapable of being trusted to the full extent of those freedoms.

I convinced a rancher to stop removing (killing) the beavers that kept trying to establish along the stream that cuts through his property, and since his land has flourished over the past decade

He was convinced they "destroyed deer habitat" which in fact was the exact opposite. Since then it's been deeper streams, a couple small ponds developing behind dams, reforestation, and better hunting.

Not nearly as right leaning as some of you make me out to be

So now during the regular season Dillon Wilhite is leaving the bench and getting technicals arguing with refs, shoving players etc.

He did it all season. He got kicked out of every game and your opponent got multiple trips to the free throw line and possession. Every time. Offseason rolls around.

"Well, problem is, what if every player on our own team fouls out, except Dillon? Or, even worse, they all just decide to quit midseason. We could kick him off the team but then if those things happened, we'd be in trouble. Also, let's be honest, if we kick Dillon off the team, that's not gonna stop us from getting technical fouls in the future. It could still happen. So, yea, we gotta keep Dillon."

So if we agree that criminals are going to continue breaking laws what difference will changing the laws make

It will only affect the law abiding citizens who were never the problem in the first place

If a person has no regard for murder laws or human life, making them wait a few extra days or making them obtain a gun illegally will do nothing to change that

Listen, kicking Dillon off the team isn't going to stop him from kicking the game ball out of the stands in pick up games he's playing in. It's not gonna stop him from calling his online opponent 8chan level filth and rage quitting NBA2k games he's loosing in. Hell, to be honest, he could race past security during our games at Allen Fieldhouse and stop play while streaking.

There's simply nothing we can do guys.
He stays.

OK, so, how about a compromise.
We keep Dillon in the locker room during the games. He's on the official roster and we let the ref know but he's not going to be playing unless we really really need him - i.e. all those players foul out. We're not gonna take Dillon away from practice. We won't take Dillon away from team dinners. He seems to control himself alright except during actual games.

No. If we do something like that, it'll eventually lead to Dillon getting kicked off the team. We all know it. Plus Dillon being in the locker room won't truly stop him from running onto the court and fondling a cheerleader. If Dillon wants to do that, he will.

Sorry, no restrictions on Dillon. He's on the bench every game.
In fact, a better solution would be to start Dillon immediately.
More Dillon all the time.
