Re: NBA 23/24
3 way tie for the 1 seed in the West with 1 game to go.
Thunder, Wolves, Nuggets, all 56-25.
Thunder play the Mavs in OKC.
Wolves play the Suns in Minnie.
Nuggs play the Grizz in Memphis.
As far as the last spot/s in the West....
Last night the Lakers struggled with a very depleted Memphis team - but beat them.
Suns were losing and came back and beat the Kings by 1.
Warriors lost to the Pelicans.
Comes down to tomorrow afternoon and it is still somewhat complex but at least the picture is set.
Current standings....
Lakers 46-35 - 8 seed
Kings 45-36 - 9 seed
Warriors 45-36 - 10 seed
Lakers have no chance for the 7 seed so there is no chance I see two home play in games.
Lakers beat the the Pelicans - Lakers are the 8 seed.
OR Lakers lose to the Pelicans, Kings lose to the Blazers, and Warriors lose to the Jazz, Lakers are the 8 seed.
8 seed isn't great for me because they would play the 7/8 play in game on the road. But, if they win that game, then the Lakers would have a home game against the winner of the Warriors/Kings.
Lakers lose and the Kings and Warriors win, Lakers are the 10 seed. They lose the tiebreaker against both teams. Zero chance for there to be a Lakers home play in game.
If I had to bet, I would bet the Lakers lose to the Pelicans and the Kings beat the Blazers and the Warriors beat the Jazz.
My hope is, the Lakers lose, the Kings win, and the Warriors lose. Lakers would have a home play in game (9/10 seeds) against the Warriors. Loser is done for the season.

Did you see how he hurt his back? Me either. Seems neither did anyone else.
Looked like it just kind of locked up on him but he was holding the side of his back.
As someone who had a kidney stone, I couldn't help but wonder if that was what happened.

It mighta been the play earlier where he missed the tip in.
He kinda got pushed out of bounds and his back arched.

his back arched when he reached for a rebound?
so...a very standard, 50 times a game play?

I thought it looked like he got a cramp or back spasm. Sounds like he's fine and he will play against the Pelicans.

RIP the Logo.

The numbers vary depending on what source you read/hear but they are close.
Not funny thing is the Suns owed him a bunch of money when they fired him. Almost gives Williams an incentive to fail when he makes the same amount of money if he is coaching or not coaching.
You would think the person in Detroit responsible for his hire would be fired too. OH WAIT! The GM was fired but...... Supposedly it was the owner who called all the shots and told the GM what to do (and not do). Meaning, it was Tom Gores who told the GM (and "Head of Basketball Operations") Williams was the guy HE wanted, and made him the highest paid coach in the NBA with a 6 year contract.
I understand owning a sports franchise is a hobby for people but it's also an investment. Seems for supposedly smart and successful business men, many wealthy owners make some really bad investment decisions.

I think owners are mostly good business men but building a successful NBA organization is a whole different animal. There is a lot of personnel chemistry involved and a lot of egos involved. Not to say there isn't those things in a regular business but it's a different type. Also the game is changing and you have to keep up with that.RainbowsandUnicorns wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 5:46 amThe numbers vary depending on what source you read/hear but they are close.

I agree. Hard to be a top team in the NBA for a sustainable period of time.AlOerter wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 11:04 amI think owners are mostly good business men but building a successful NBA organization is a whole different animal. Regardless, the Williams hiring (contract) and firing (after one season) is one of the head scratchers to me. There have been a lot of them.
