I am hoping maybe Elmarko is the next in line for that.
The DHs and Kjs are a dying breed.
I only remember a few instances like the Chris Johnson and Labaron Philon situation where they commit and never arrive on campus.pdub wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 10:30 amCome on dude.
I've been a KU fan since I could remember.
I started a message bored.
Don't do that - this is obviously different.
It has certainly been far more common that guys arrive and then decide the juice isn't worth the squeeze.DeletedUser wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 10:40 amI only remember a few instances like the Chris Johnson and Labaron Philon situation where they commit and never arrive on campus.
I mean, broadly, that's not wrong. And the track record of guys that have made that decision, versus the guys who didn't, would certainly suggest that you better be sure.
That is a long code.pdub wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 11:26 am It's code for, we liked you a lot earlier this season but now our budget has expanded more than we expected and there are a lot of free agents we have the money for, and we aren't so sure we want to invest the time in you when we have a guy who is already developed and ready to play and all we have to do is hook him up with this 800k we have in our ( oops not our - it's totally separate from us NCAA don't worry ) collective, so we don't like you as much anymore and it might be best for you to look elsewhere because we only have so many "schollies" ( lolz ) to give out.

We have long since talked about the "positionless" component of Self's system (and most systems in hoops any more). Anyone who isn't a big is a competitor for minutes these days. KU doesn't have a single file line to just PG minutes. Any minutes that Philon might have gotten beside Harris or Jackson would be gone to Griffen or one of the other half dozen guards/wings.DeletedUser wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 10:10 amThe only weird thing is Griffen and him aren't directly competing for minutes. Philon was battling Zeke and Elmarko for minutes as the backup 1. Unlikely he'd play off ball with DH because he isn't a shooter and he's small.twocoach wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 9:31 am Like I said, I'd bet this means that Griffen from Bama is more than likely headed to KU. Rumors are out there that he will commit on Friday but those are just rumors at this point. I hope they are true as he seems like a competent player ready to contribute immediately.
I do think Griffen is coming to KU. I do not understand why it'd impact Philon other than we may have decided we'd rather use his scholarship elsewhere. His comments online sure seem like he feels forced out.
But three years from now, we're not able to reflect back and say "I remember when this guy was a mop up minute guy and now look at him out there kicking ass".
Meh. I am sure that Self tells all players that they will have to compete against other players for minutes and that they will always try to bring in the best possible players. I am glad that Philon flaked now instead of in the fall so we a least have a chance to fill his spot with a good player.pdub wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 11:26 am It's code for, we liked you a lot earlier this season but now our budget has expanded more than we expected and there are a lot of free agents we have the money for, and we aren't so sure we want to invest the time in you when we have a guy who is already developed and ready to play and all we have to do is hook him up with this 800k we have in our ( oops not our - it's totally separate from us NCAA don't worry ) collective, so we don't like you as much anymore and it might be best for you to look elsewhere because we only have so many "schollies" ( lolz ) to give out.

I freaking told you we shoulda been playing him more 2 years ago!
