2024/2025 Lineup
Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
Chris Johnson decommitted in early June and Marcus Adams decommitted in July last year.
Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
OK, so you're proving my point.
Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
I didn't see that you make a point

"I think it's very obviously different since the adoption of NIL.
How often do we have a player like Philon decommit in late April?"

How often do we have a player like Storr commit in April?
It’s happened before. But, yes, the NIL/portal era has accelerated things.
It’s still a better option than, say, hanging onto Bobby Pettiford and starting him next year just cuz you got to watch him as a freshman.

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
We have had players decommit prior to NIL. Sydney Curry, Tre White, Markese Jacobs to name the most recent ones.

It's a ripple effect.twocoach wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 1:45 pmMeh. I am sure that Self tells all players that they will have to compete against other players for minutes and that they will always try to bring in the best possible players. I am glad that Philon flaked now instead of in the fall so we a least have a chance to fill his spot with a good player.pdub wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 11:26 am It's code for, we liked you a lot earlier this season but now our budget has expanded more than we expected and there are a lot of free agents we have the money for, and we aren't so sure we want to invest the time in you when we have a guy who is already developed and ready to play and all we have to do is hook him up with this 800k we have in our ( oops not our - it's totally separate from us NCAA don't worry ) collective, so we don't like you as much anymore and it might be best for you to look elsewhere because we only have so many "schollies" ( lolz ) to give out.
It's a long code.
Whatever he expected (or was told) the depth chart to be, it's not.
Cool Papa Harris is still here, and in line for 42 mpg somehow. Jackson is still at the kids' table, looking to fight over the same scraps as Philon. McDowell is probably less talented, but has the advantage of time served. And then we had such a dogshit year that Bill had no choice BUT to scramble for the Mayos and Kugels of the world, because we can't be caught as goddamn feeble next year as we were this year.

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
Issac mccbride, royce Woodridge, zach Peters.. did any of those guys make it to campus?
I guess it's been going on awhile. Just probably going to increase in frequency
Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
Peters practiced with the team early his freshman season but quit after his 3rd and 4th concussions in a year's time but yes, you are correct. But I doubt KU has had a player as highly ranked decommit. Oh well, fuck him if he doesn't want to play here. There are others eagerly waiting to take that spot.
Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
Curry was during the year where NIL became legal.
Tre White decommited in December - 2 seasons before he would have played at KU.
Markese Jacobs decommited in August, a full season before he would have played at KU.
And by 'fuck him if he doesn't want to play here' I just don't think it's the way you all think it is going down.

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
I think the issue is "doesn't want to play here" is quite broad! For me, I would absolutely understand if he looks at everything - the depth chart (the Harris AND Jackson parts), how badly we've botched things for guys like him - and says "nah fam."pdub wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 2:08 pm Curry was during the year where NIL became legal.

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
Yes, I would assume that there is more to it than my one sentence message board post but I am not privy to every factor as he has made no public comments. Things now are obviously different than when he committed just as they are every season for every recruit, especially now in the time of the portal.pdub wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 2:08 pm Curry was during the year where NIL became legal.

I just dont feel like letting this bother me.
Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
My guess is we are just about to land another transfer.
His timing may have something to do with that.

We'll see in a few days if the internet rumors of Griffen to KU this Friday were unfounded internet guessing or if they are true.

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
The new recruiting process: recruit several freshman prospects early in the process, so you have incoming talent. Then in the spring see what's in the portal and try to over recruit the freshman with proven experienced players, and scare off the incoming freshman
Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
Largely correct.randylahey wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 2:38 pm The new recruiting process: recruit several freshman prospects early in the process, so you have incoming talent. Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
I think we should hear about Griffen shortly. Brea is a great specialist but Griffen is more versatile and plays defense. Seems like more of a Self kind of guy. Great if we get both. 50% from 3 at volume is nothing to sneeze at. I guess the Timberlake experiment makes me a little nervous about it.

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
I think it's more transfer portal. We've turned over probably 50% of our roster since Philon committed.
But NIL plays a role too. Not sure how much for Philon.
Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
i'm still mad about whatever happened with micah downs. man i was super stoked about that recruiting class and he ups and leaves what, 3 weeks in?
also, oussie will be thrilled to check out some recent photos of that guy.
