We have a lot of different lineup possibilities now with these portal guys giving us long athletic shooters

Lineups that don't have KJ out there with zero shooting ability

Lineups that don't have slowmo hunter guarding the pick and roll

I'm intrigued

Those guys are both playing 30+mpg.

But yes, more versatility.

While I don’t doubt it, I also think Self is smart enough to realize the lineups we put out there this year got smoked enough that we gotta be ready to throw some new looks out there next year

I find it reasonable to think hunter and KJ both play less minutes next season.

Both will be a big part of the rotation obviously, but we have quality depth, that both affords them to rest more, and allows self to tinker with lineups

I hope we have doods who can check in and make defenses adjust.

I’d say Elmarko and Flory can get up to speed, that would be a whole different look with different skill sets

Not worried about scoring.

Worried about defense and rebounding. Storr will need to be a better rebounder than he has shown. Same with KJ obviously.

My Wisconsin-fan friend says Storr "tries on defense... sometimes".

But also that he's an awesome scorer when not settling for threes.

So definite starters are
Juan
Storrs
KJ
Hunter

Fifth is between Elmarko, Griffen, and Mayo. The two of those that don't start should be in the rotation.

Then either Bidunga or Clemence playing backup 5 and maybe some 4. But probably not both, cause Self.

I assume based on rumors no Kugel.

Maybe redshirt Jamari, unless it turns out our defense is so bad we need him to play. But probably redshirt.

Passmore probably just sits on the bench a lot?

Maybe now that he doesn't have to take 200 more shots than any teammate then he will be more inclined to play harder on defense.

I didn’t realize basketball players played only offense or defense. Perhaps we should move this thread to the football bored.

I think that's gotta be the deal here: You play defense...or...you don't play. That's almost always been HCBS's rule -- except in situations like last season when he didn't have any choice. Everyone is gonna have to get better because now there's legitimate competition.

Not sure why we're pursuing Poplar when we're already loaded with guards. No activity on getting another big which I think would be more important for depth at this point.

Honestly, another guard might be a bigger priority.

We already have 4 options at big - Hunter, Flory, Clemence, KJ.

Putting KJ here cuz we've seen he is at least an option at the 5, and could be a killer small ball 5 in the right matchup if we have the depth to play that way.

I also know Clemence might end up being a/spending time at the 4, but I still think he's more likely to play as a big, right?

But at PG, we have fewer options - Dajuan and Elmarko. (Can Zeke play lead?)

Who knows how far along Elmarko will be as a sophomore. Maybe he'll make that jump and be able to give us some good minutes backing up/as a changeup in place of Dajuan.

I don't mean this as a rag on Dajuan, as I do think he's an asset who brings a lot to the lineup. But, I also think our lineup will be that much more potent if we have a second option at PG who can not only effectively spell Dajuan, but ideally also give us a look besides Dajuan - whether it's with shooting, slashing, whatever, we could use a guard who can make opposing defenses have to change the way they're guarding us.

I suppose that's a bit of a luxury. But, come on, we're Kansas. Our best teams have had multiple guards capable of playing lead - and/or our lead being an All-American type talent.

and I know illy asked me what portal dood I'd pick, but I'm honestly not sure. Whatever archetypal Remy might be out there. It might have to be a "small" guard, but it also might not. Just someone who can play on the ball and be some threat to score or at least break down the D or something.

Is that Poplar? Is that Zeke? Is that Elmarko? Is it Late Night yet?

also, as far as depth goes, we're prob more likely to play multiple PGs than we are multiple bigs, so the lead position might be worth stocking up on in the portal more so than the post.

That's the likely guess.

Might have 1-2 shirts - maybe McD or Passmore?

Figure Juan/KJ/Hunter will prob play a ton again. That leaves most of the minutes up for grabs at the 2 and 3 spots

That's like 80mpg between Storr, Griffen, Zeke, Elmarko, Passmore, McD, Kugel?

and 2 of those doods might likely end up playing like 30 or more mpg themselves
