HD might be a liability in opposite, but equal ways. Here is to hoping that possibility has been mitigated with the new pieces around him. For as much as I dislike HD bc of how he celebrates himself, disappears when adversity hits (seemingly), and his defensive liability, I hope the right pieces around him change this. I also recognize how good offensively he is. For a player with his level of hype, he should make others around him better. And he doesn’t seem to.
He's an excellent passer, which was something of a wasted skill with what we had around him last year.

Somewhat puzzlingly, too, the P&R with Dajuan never really materialized. Perhaps Jackson will be far enough along as an attacker that he'll make a better partner there.

Jackson, for as bad as he played last year, might end up being a fan favorite, as a ‘throwback’ type player, who actually develops before our eyes.

Because: fuck the way the game is now.

Re: the new/right pieces around particular dood/s…

Part of me is concerned that the same 3 guys we are building around as a core for next year are the same 3 guys that were the core of a lineup that was getting absolutely torched by opponents come March

Maybe that really was just how bad we were at the 2 and 3 spots last year.

Maybe we can expect the 1, 4, and 5 spots to look a lot better with new pieces alongside, and/or individually make a leap in development

Maybe Self is already scheming rotational change-ups to offset the way last year’s core was getting torched

Is it late night yet?

I think your last point about rotational changes is the most important. We shouldhave much more depth next season.

Kj had almost nothing to do with it, but in the final four Dajuan had 11pts, 7ast, 5stl, 1blk, and 57min played......so I'd say Dajuan had quite a bit to do with the 21/22 title.
This.
You all motivated me to watch the 2nd half versus UNC again.
Sure he contributed, but we probably don’t win if we don’t have a Remy get hit at just the right time.

There was a reason Harris didn’t play last 8+ minutes.
Correct. This sums it up. Dajuan was a good role player for that team, but not an essential piece we built around to win a title

I was so hung over watching the Champ game live in ‘22, it was mostly not enjoyable until the end. Pat O’Brien’s did its job the night before.

Sorry, this is nonsense. For example, go play back Remy's season, and tell me what seed we would have even had without Harris.

I think it's dumb to use the title to declare that Harris is awesome.

I think it's dumber to say he was not an essential piece.

ousdahl wrote: Sun Apr 28, 2024 10:45 am For the sake of this thread…what can we expect as far as Dajuan next year?

Is there something we can realistically expect him to better develop that he hasn’t already?
We can expect 5+ ast per game and really good defense.

I don't expect him to magically develop into Ja Morant in the next 6 months.

DH didn't play during the last 8 minutes of the 2nd half?

More than…excluding when he was put back in to turn it over with 4 seconds left.

Wasn't Harris something like +20 that second half? Like, the comeback happened with him in, and iirc we were up when he went out. Then we were basically even the rest of the way.

I'm not saying Remy's big plays weren't essential, they absolutely were. He was huge. But there seems to be a narrative of "things were going bad and Remy saved us" that just isn't accurate.

He score the majority of our points last 8 minutes. Harris was in during comeback, and made a couple great plays. Also got torched defensively a few times after we came back and UNC fought back. It was tied 57-57…. Remy gets next 5 points and one more corner three. Also block with under a Knute to go on a driving layup.

Maybe he didn’t save the game, but he definitely did as much as anyone to win it final 8 minutes.

It seemed to work well with Kj. Not so much with Hunter.

Eye roll.
DMac defended UNC's best player and held him to 3-13 shooting and hit the game winning shot and another to ice it.

DMac was big no doubt. Remy was equally so.

Yes, I know that goes against your strict ‘one truth’ policy.

Not essential other than starting basically every game and being awesome at defense.

Defense is essential.

No, not equally so.

Remy played 21min.

CB played 40 and had 12 and 12. DMac 15 and 10. Both had better games than Remy.

Remy was "equally so" with Jalen and Och. He was not "equally so" with DMac.
