What music does everyone listen to?
Re: What music does everyone listen to?
Coltrane is an interesting case study cuz his music just got crazier and crazier.
Then you learn in the latter days of his career he was going crazy. Like literally insane. Had a brain tumor that was fucking with his cognitive function and shit.
Prime Trane is hard to beat tho.
But I honestly might prefer Cannonball or Sonny Rollins. yea I said it.

Anywho I’m actually stopping by to ask for help curating a playlist.
This playlist is supposed to be about running. I’m going more for running as part of the song name or lyrics, but ideally it should also be a serviceably uptempo sort of tune that would be good to run to.
So far I got:
Born to run - the boss
Running down a dream - Tom Petty
Run like an antelope - Phish
Run like hell - Pink Floyd
Running on empty - Josh Jackson
Run to the hills - Iron Maiden
Runaround Sue - who sang that?
Running with the devil- Van Halen
Take the money and run - Steve miller band
Run thru the jungle - creedence
Run Rudolph run- chuck berry
Grandma got run over by a reindeer - Santa Claus
I ran - flock of seagulls
Fire on the mountain - just had to have one dead song right, plus one song that at least had running in the lyrics rather than the title “long distance runner whatcha standing there for?”
Ok what else you got!

It is a grabber. Especially love the rhythm section setting it all up. Bought a soprano based on this one and Fortress round your heart.japhy wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2024 10:13 am That Coltrane could ingest this saccharine infused song...

Re: What music does everyone listen to?
It's a reasonable assertion to posit that at one time, David Sanborn was the most heard saxophonist in the US, if not the world for a couple of decades. His discography and the list of people he played with is truly a who's who of several genres of popular American music.
Here's a partial list:
Sanborn was a highly regarded session player from the late 1960s onwards, playing with an array of well-known artists, such as James Brown, Bryan Ferry, Michael Stanley, Eric Clapton, Bobby Charles, Cat Stevens, Roger Daltrey, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Jaco Pastorius, the Brecker Brothers, Michael Franks, Kenny Loggins, Casiopea, Players Association, David Bowie, Todd Rundgren, Bruce Springsteen, Little Feat, Tommy Bolin, Bob James, James Taylor, Al Jarreau, Pure Prairie League, Kenny G, Loudon Wainwright III, George Benson, Joe Beck, Donny Hathaway, Elton John, Gil Evans, Carly Simon, Guru, Linda Ronstadt, Billy Joel, Kenny Garrett, Roger Waters, Steely Dan, Ween, the Eagles, Grateful Dead, Nena, Hikaru Utada, The Rolling Stones, Ian Hunter, and Toto.
Sanborn was born in Tampa, Florida, and grew up in Kirkwood, Missouri. He contracted polio in his youth.[4] He began playing saxophone on a physician's advice to strengthen his weakened chest muscles and improve his breathing, instead of studying piano.

With David Sanborn’s passing, much of the key personnel from “Young Americans” is now gone:
* Sanborn
* Luther Vandross
* Bowie, himself
Recording the iconic album, Sanborn said, was “one of the great pleasures of my life.”

Re: What music does everyone listen to?
Sorry to hear of Sanborn's passing. Almost evey young alto player tried to sound like him. I liked Cannonball myself. But Sanborn inspired a generation.
Re: What music does everyone listen to?
Apparently he wasn't glad to be so closely associated with"soft jazz", but it paid the bills.
