why is it a Mexican sandwich and not an Anglo taco?
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

Re: Tacos v Enchiladas
For camping I brought a flat iron steak, marinated in carne asada sauce. Put it on a grill grate right over the fire. Cooked medium rare and thin sliced to order.
Toasted the tortillas too, plus shredded lettuce cheese onion and salsa for fixins. Dunno if I can ever go back to just hot dogs.

Re: Tacos v Enchiladas
Did you car camp or actually hike in?
Tougher to transport a steak in a pack for a long while.

Yea this was just car camp.
Gotta step up the cuisine especially when that’s the case.
Hike-in camp protein is likely to involve trout.
and I prefer couscous for a backcountry starch. Less cook time than rice or pasta if you wanna conserve time or fuel

Re: Tacos v Enchiladas
5 questions.
We (actually you all) already discussed Tacos v Enchiladas.
Thinking about your favorite/s of all of the following
How about....
1. Onion Rings v French Fries v Hush Puppies?
2. Hamburgers v Hot Dogs v Chicken Wings?
3. Root Beer v Coke/Pepsi v Sprite/7Up?
4. Ice Cream v Pie v Doughnuts?
5. Garlic Bread v Chips & Guacamole v Carrots/Celery & Humus?

Onion rings
Chicken wings
Coke
Doughnuts
Garlic bread (would have gone chips and salsa).

1. man, hush puppies! Haven't had a good one in years. But they, like, all other fried shit, has to be fresh. Also, not personally a huge fan of onion rings, cuz I like a starchy side to be more neutral flavor. And French fries can come in so many different varieties and quality of executions, that answer is a wild card
2. Wings
3. I broke up with all of them. Seriously haven't had a soda in years.
4. Ice cream
5. Yes.

Re: Tacos v Enchiladas
1. Very tough. I mostly am in the mood for french fries but peak greatness is a good onion ring. I'd say my favorite is onion ring but if I had to eliminate 2 of the 3 so I couldn't eat the others anymore, it'd be onion ring and hushpuppies, leaving french fries.
2. Hamburgers with cheese
3. Coke. I'd rather root beer than Pepsi though.
4. Pie
5. Chips and guac ( prefer chips and salsa )

Re: Tacos v Enchiladas
I did say "favorites" of all of the choices.
1. Have to go with Hush Puppies (from Mushroom & Sons in the 70s/80s) only because much less common for me to eat than fries and onion rings. Although, I have had some mind blowing almost orgasmic fries and onion rings in my life.
2. Burger. Easy choice for me.
3. Will choose Coke 9 times out of 10 but "favorite" Root Beer over typical coke.
4. Pie because I think it brings back memories of my grandmother but I would choose ice cream over pie 9 times out of 10 and I have had some phenomenal ice cream.
5. Garlic Bread. Easy choice for me.

I've never seen Brownie Root Beer, I'll keep my eyes peeled for it.
Hires has always been my favorite root beer.
Back in the '80s you couldn't get Hires in KC anymore, but I found it in Co. or Utah before a multi-day whitewater raft trip down the Green River from Vernal, Utah to Moab. The outfitter encouraged us to bring whatever we wanted to drink and put it in their large communal coolers. So, I stocked up on Hires.
Apparently, I wasn't the only one who liked Hires root beer, because despite bringing a case, it disappeared from the coolers very early in the trip.
I'm still not over it, and wish you hadn't brought it up!

there’s a local variety called Howie’s that’s quite good (and relatively cheap), that’s our main choice, but occasionally we’ll hit up the Root Beer Store down in Sandy (they’ve got Hires and Brownie and literally hundreds of other varieties…and taffy) and splurge
