i just wish they would’ve had this success when i was younger, living in the area, and a bigger fan
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: NFL Offseason 2024
Loved the 90s and earl 2000s though. It is so hard to get to the superbowl we have now become a pretty spoiled fanbase.KUTradition wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2024 8:31 am i just wish they would’ve had this success when i was younger, living in the area, and a bigger fan

Jefferson breaks contract records wide open.
He's extremely talented but this is not something I invest in at this level at this stage in Minnesota's NFL cycle.

Re: NFL Offseason 2024
Spending big bucks on NFL WRs is going to prove out to be a bad investment.
Re: NFL Offseason 2024
I guess since they have a rookie QB contract now they can do that.
For me? I'd rather wait to see if my rookie showed signs of top 10 potential before that investment...bc if not, in todays NFL, you already have to start thinking about tear down with the Vikings pieces and the teams around them.

Re: NFL Offseason 2024
I think they're clearly trying to swallow the cap pain now, so that they're through it by the time they've got to either extend or replace McCarthy.pdub wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2024 10:23 am I guess since they have a rookie QB contract now they can do that.

Re: NFL Offseason 2024
Yes but if McCarthy ends up being mid you just committed 4 years of cap pain for years you won't be able to compete.
Such is the way of the NFL - and at least Vikes fans have a superstar they can latch on to.

Probably true. Maybe true. Maybe not true?
Not too many multiple time All-Pro (and HOF) QB who didn't have an All-Pro (HOF) WR.
As far as Just Jeff, no doubt a great talent but come on. That's an obscene amount of money to be giving a guy who had the same amount of TD catches the last 2 seasons as Cole Kmet had.

Re: NFL Offseason 2024
I think for some franchises it's better to have a marquee player and be the 20th best team in the league than it is to be the 17th best team in the league but with no marquee player.
Sure, it's nice to think that all teams are trying to win a superbowl each year, but that's not remotely realistic for a lot of franchises.

Oh, I am sure it is good for putting up numbers. I just meant it is probably not as good for building a SB winner around. That's a lot of cash to spend on guys when you have good players on rookie contracts coming out of the draft every year. We'll see if the Bucs, Bears, Texans, Eagles and Dolphins can thrive with 2 $20+ million/season guys at the position or if they have to cut too many players around them.RainbowsandUnicorns wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2024 6:23 amProbably true. Re: NFL Offseason 2024
How many SB winning teams had a top 3 WR in salary on their teams in the last 20 years?
I'm going to guess not many.

Re: NFL Offseason 2024
Cooper Kupp with the Rams is the only one I can think of lately. I think Sammy Watkins might have had one of the largest WR salaries in the 2019 season.
Re: NFL Offseason 2024
But Kupp wasn't paid the big bucks until after that win I think.
Watkins was overpaid for sure but he was 7th that season.

Re: NFL Offseason 2024
Correlation vs causation ? Hard to say. Could say the same thing about a high paid RB.
Over the last 20 years the best way to win a superbowl is to have Brady or Mahomes as your QB.
The most important piece is QB. Does having a very high paid WR make it harder to have an elite QB? It sure does if you don't draft an elite QB. But so does having an expensive RB or LB or whatever.
The vikings aren't winning a superbowl in the next few years no matter who they have at WR or what they pay them, because they don't have an elite QB. So you might as well pay your all pro WR because he's awesome.

Yes. This is partially the point.
"But so does having an expensive RB or LB or whatever."
The difference here being RB's and LB's aren't nearly as much $$ as a WR.
If a WR is costing you 3x the amount for a very solid starter at another position then you run the chance of not being as well rounded.
In our case, if we had signed Tyreek to that deal, we wouldn't have been able to keep Chris Jones or sign Justin Reid.

Re: NFL Offseason 2024
And factor in the injuries for WR. Tough physically. Need depth more than stars.
