In our case, our choice made total sense. We've already got our QB. Being well rounded matters because we are contenders.

To me, in Minnesota's case, I think it makes sense to pay him. They aren't winning the superbowl regardless, so there is value in having the best WR in the game. Fan interest matters.

Right - most fans would have been pissed had they not done so.
But the smarter thing would be, since you're admitting they don't have a shot at the superbowl, to trade him.

That would have fetched you 2 1sts or a 1st, a day 2 pick and a very useful player - at minimum.
In your timeline, now, you have assets to build around, hopefully, your future QB when he becomes viable.

I'm going to guess not many.
EXCELLENT point!

Takes a TEAM effort to win the Super Bowl. Best not to put all your eggs in to one (or two or three) WR.
Now that being said, you have to pay the best players as if they are the best players.
Won't hurt McCarthy to have him catching passes. The question then may be, how much will it hurt McCarthy to not have better players protecting him?

Today's edition of you have got to be fucking kidding me....

So.... What if any repercussions does Jacobs face?

https://fanbuzz.com/nfl/nfl-speaks-out- ... or-opener/

Meanwhile, if there is ANY truth to a possible issue of people wearing the color green putting themself in danger due to gangs, how fricking funny would it be that the NFL chose TWO teams who's color/s are green to play in the game there - while their fans would obviously be wearing green too?

LOL. Of the 2021 NFL QB class, Lawrence is the only one who managed to score a second contract with the team that drafted him. Brutal.

No. 1: Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars
No. 2: Zach Wilson, New York Jets
No. 3: Trey Lance, San Francisco 49ers
No. 11: Justin Fields, Chicago Bears
No. 15: Mac Jones, New England Patriots

But, to Lawrence's credit, he lacks mobility, is injured frequently and makes critical mistakes. He is basically Dak Prescott. But more expensive.

Only until Dak gets his new, ridiculous contract to celebrate his 2-5 career postseason record.

Yeah, kind of mind numbing but.....
I'm curious what a 3rd season in the NFL Pat Mahomes would have done if he was on the Jags last season playing with the same identical players and coaches - and what Lawrence would have done on the 2018 Chiefs if he had been in his 2nd year in the league.
I assume Mahomes > Lawrence (by a substantial margin) but I think those things should be taken in to account in regards to how we assess players performances. Not easy to play great with shit players surrounding you and a lot easier to play great with great players surrounding you.

Better than Lawrence.
Did you see some of the throws he made last season?
Yikes.

I’d also argue his RB and WR core was a decent amount more talented than the Chiefs was last season.

Ridley and Kirk > Rashee and MVS
Etienne > Pacheco ( yes we have had this argument—I think Etienne is a better back )

Not sure what you guys talking about. Lawrence probably best QB Jag's ever had. He is the face of the franchise. He is not Mahomes. Yet these QB contract's are out of control. One of the smartest things Tom Brady did and pretty sure that is why he won so many super bowls is he was never paid at the top level by NE. I think there were always 10+ QB's getting paid more than TOM.

So the details of his contract. The cap hit by year.

2024: $15,029,725
2025: $17,000,000
2026: $24,000,000
2027: $35,000,000
2028: $47,000,000
2029: $78,500,000
2030: $74,841,000

After 2028 Jags can tear up this deal with zero cap hit and just sign Trevor to another contract.

Hartjack: I see Elvis Grbac and Lawrence as roughly equivalent. Grbac was 1-3 as a starter in post season. Trevor Lawrence has a post season passer rating of 72.1 with 505 yards, 5 touchdowns and 5 interceptions in 2 games in the playoffs in his career.

Trevor is far better than Grbac.
He's still young.
He's good.

The Jags really had no choice here - I don't think Lawrence is good enough to get them over the top - he's like a Kirk Cousins kinda guy - but he's a top 15-20 QB so you have to keep him.

I think the Jags should not have splurged so much. It is such an important postion, some gambling warranted

Who knows how demanding Trevor and his representatives were.

A team in the NFL probably would have paid him that even if it’s an overpay…and then if you’re Jacksonville you’ve lost your young starting QB whom you drafted 1st overall for nothing.

It’s not an enviable spot bc I think Jacksonville will be just good enough to sneak in the playoffs but loose often in them.

This was done by the Jags. So he still had one more year on his rookie deal and then they could have picked up his 5th year option and then the could have tagged him. So three more years if they wanted but there is always the details, so this contract is basically a 5 year $200 million dollar deal, the rest the Jags are not on the hook for at all. Trevor's contract is super Jag's friendly. Look at those cap numbers.
Name one team that does not have a Rookie QB and there cap number is less....besides the Steelers.

“ After 2028 Jags can tear up this deal with zero cap hit and just sign Trevor to another contract”

This is not true unless they just clean cut him.
His cap number is very low for 2 years because he signed an extension not a new contract.
If you recall Mahomes played for 7 million in 2021.

It puts Trevor in the drivers seat for years 29 and 30. Sure he very well may restructure but he doesn’t have to…and he has a no trade clause as well.

It’s not as bad as initially thought though but it is a lot of money for a quarterback who has the most turnovers by any in the last three years and with an average TD/INT ratio of 19/13.
