As 99 alluded to...
“If your version of Christianity wants to put the Ten Commandments in schools but take free lunches out of them, you’re worshiping something other than Jesus.” —@ZachWLambert

Other comments of note.....

“Can someone explain to me how putting a rainbow in a classroom is ‘indoctrination’ but the Ten Commandments are not?” —@Logically_JC

“Public schools are for everyone, all races, genders, religions, abilities. This is a blatant violation of what public schools were built for. Also, Louisiana ranks 49th in public education for a reason. Their government is more concerned with passing this nonsense than funding schools and improving education.” —@missaimeemd

Yes, I think children could benefit from ADHERING to one, or two, or three, or however many, of THEE 10 Commandments.
I also think they could benefit from having parents and/or family members who teach them the differences between right and wrong and teach them the repercussions of their doing wrong - without God having to be involved in their classroom/s.

Let me guess, you have a Cross and/or a picture of Jesus in your home?
If so, and it makes you and your family members feel good - fantastic. I mean that.
I have close friends who have Crosses and pictures of Jesus in their homes and they are wonderful people. I respect them, and what they choose to have in their homes, and that their religion is important to them.
Now if they walked in to my home and put a Cross and a picture of Jesus in my home and told me I must respect and adhere to the "laws" of Christianity, I admit I would have a problem that.
Just as I suspect you would have a problem if I walked in to your home and put a Mezuzah in your doorway, and a Star of David on your wall, and told you that you need to adhere to the "teachings" of the Torah.

P.S. Kate Marsh says hello.

Landry stopped about a thousand years shy of the origin of the commandments. Most are found in aprivative form in Egyptian funerary manuscripts from around 2600 BCE.

Is anything more on brand for today's GOP than a child passing out and being completely ignored by the politicians while they go on and on about their mission to protect and save our children?

Isn't adultery one of the bigly 10?
1) Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
- - The almighty dollar, himself - violated
2) Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.
- - Probably fine.
3) Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain
- - cussing, twitter, meetings with Pelosi - violated.
4) Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy
- - avoids church, works weekends - violated.
5) Honour thy father and thy mother
- - Seems to speak well of his father, never heard a peep about his mother. Probably fine.
6) Thou shalt not murder
- - Iranian general - indirectly violated.
7) Thou shalt not commit adultery
- - 3 wives, assorted escorts - violated x100.
8) Thou shalt not steal
- - business history, contractors shorted, bankruptcies - violated x1000.
9) Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor
- - endless lies, against everyone - violated x1000.
10) Thou shalt not covet (neighbor's house, wife, slaves, animals, anything else)
- - assorted houses, wives, and anything else - violated x1000.

Maybe he's OK on the Seven Deadly Sin though...

Greed - few in the US have been more guilty of the pursuit of greed and money than Donald Trump. Violated.

Sloth - no President in history spent more time playing golf and boasting about not preparing for their job than Donald Trump. Violated.

Gluttony - Donald Trump is a gluttonous, fat piece of shit. Violated.

Wrath - he has openly stated that his platform will include punishing anyone who has crossed him and turned on every one of his inner circle who dared not to do as he commanded. Violated.

Lust - of age, underage, even his own daughter, few have lusted after women outside of their marriage more than Trump. Violated.

Pride - Donald Trump is an expert on every subject, if you don't believe me, just ask him. Violated.

Envy- Trump still cannot get over the fact that Obama is seen to be a better President than him or that anyone thinks anyone else was a better President than him. Violated.

So do you mean something like selling a branded version of the Bible with "Gob Bless the USA" on the cover for $59.99? Or constantly saying "God damn"? Or when he said he's 'the most honest human being God has ever created'?

Anyone else going?

(I think this might be that "Solstice" thingy japhy has been talking about.)

More than 1,000 people die at hajj pilgrimage 2024 amid extreme heat in Saudi Arabia, AFP reports

Riyadh — The death toll from this year's hajj has exceeded 1,000, an AFP tally said on Thursday, more than half of them unregistered worshippers who performed the pilgrimage in extreme heat in Saudi Arabia. The new deaths reported Thursday included 58 from Egypt, according to an Arab diplomat who provided a breakdown showing that of 658 total dead from that country, 630 were unregistered.

All told around 10 countries have reported 1,081 deaths during the annual pilgrimage, one of the five pillars of Islam which all Muslims with the means must complete at least once. The figures have come via official statements or from diplomats working on their countries' responses.

The hajj, whose timing is determined by the lunar Islamic calendar, fell again this year during the oven-like Saudi summer.

The national meteorological center reported a high of 51.8 degrees Celsius (125 degrees Fahrenheit) earlier this week at the Grand Mosque in Mecca.

Ezekiel 23:18-21: When she carried on her prostitution openly and exposed her naked body, I turned away from her in disgust, just as I had turned away from her sister. 19 Yet she became more and more promiscuous as she recalled the days of her youth, when she was a prostitute in Egypt. 20 There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses. 21 So you longed for the lewdness of your youth, when in Egypt your bosom was caressed and your young breasts fondled.
