Even though getting beat by a 13/14 would sting, this has to be the year where the last game will hurt the least in the Self era.

Hmm. I'd need to think about that.

I think that's a somewhat accurate statement. In terms of expectations going into the tournament. Previous years, I expected KU to go deep. This year, I am not. So any loss whether it be the first game of the 6th game, would not sting nearly as bad as year's past.

Roster-wise, the closest analog in my mind is 2005-06 (although it's not perfect).

That loss stung quite a bit.

You guys sound so pissy.

The only way the last loss won't really suck is if it's to a really good team on the second weekend and we play hard but just come up short.

Reminds me more of '14-15. That loss hurt mostly because of the opponent.

In terms of losses that didn't sting, i'd put our loosing to Michigan State in 09 up there.
We had already over performed that season and made it to the 2nd weekend.
I'd also put Self's first year here - while we lost to GTech in OT and coulda gone to our 3rd straight Final Four - we still made it to the E8 and figured Simien, Langford and co. were all coming back.

That said, PhD is right.
Let's not worry about the sting and go to another Final Four.
It'd be nice to be one of the teams that gets to play a bunch of lower seeds that upset the higher ones ( i.e. like 2004 when we got Pacific and UAB ).

Yeah. I know that team had all kinds of problems, but in the playground way of doing things, that team would have two guys picked before anyone on this team.

if only there was a senior that had the kind of experience that these young guys could utilize

I think we're learning that a certain number of credit hours does not make one a leader.

True.
But then you kinda fell off a cliff in terms of talent after that.
Marcus wasn't ready but he had to be.
You had a sophomore Morningstar having to play a major role.

I think that objection can be comfortably assumed for a number of your statements this season.

Sting has a direct correlation to expectations. And they are set very low for this team.

NCAA tournament expectations can still be changed considerably based on conference tourney performance (even though history suggests there's no correlation between the two).

If we were to somehow win the conference tourney, an opening weekend loss would sting.

If we go 0-1 or 1-1 in the conference tourney and then loose on on Sat/Sun to a 4/5 seed, I hate to say it, but that'd not be surprising.

I guess the more I think about it, the tournament loss (whenever it comes) won't sting at all really. But it'll just be a fitting end to a massively disappointing season on all fronts.

Y'all know the committee is going to have us matched up against Bradley.

Same result as last time. This team fucking blows. Just hope Self makes his decision quickly so we can get Stevens in here.
