The MICHs of the world can joke about protest votes and gas prices and what the fuck ever until the cows come home.
No person who genuinely loves America can vote for anyone but Biden this November. Any other vote is a vote for a king.

Fine. But I think he will be - frankly, while this holding is (and as Loper was) a five alarm fire for democracy, it's an enormous gift to the Biden campaign.RainbowsandUnicorns wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 12:11 pmIf Biden isn't on the ballot I'm not voting for him.jfish26 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 10:43 amWhich means the ONLY protection that remains, is the ballot box. Re: SCOTUS
Absolutely cannot let these justices back into the building. The corrupt non-recusals, the bribery, the refusal to police themselves, the countermanding today of the Constitution as written, no less, requires them to go. My fist immune official act would be to dismiss them.
Re: SCOTUS
And how sacred is the ballot box to a corrupt and rogue court? They have subverted democracy too. I cannot expect them to respect the actual will of voters ever again.
Re: SCOTUS
The problem - well, one of the MANY problems - is that what the Court has done here is to create effective, unlimited immunity, so long as the person seeking cover is on the right team.Sparko wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 12:26 pm Absolutely cannot let these justices back into the building. Re: SCOTUS
It's not. That's why I say the ONLY remaining check on Trumpism is THIS election. Whatever guardrails remain, you can expect those to be scrapped on day one.

That is why you need to arrest the seditious team. Re: SCOTUS
Fish, they will interfere in THIS election. They'll find Bush V. Bore level reason to upend it. Their jobs are at stake.

I don't disagree with you - but the only insulation, then, is on the literal margins.Sparko wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 12:31 pmFish, they will interfere in THIS election. They'll find Bush V. Bore level reason to upend it. Their jobs are at stake.
Re: SCOTUS
The more I think about it, the more I am astonished at the specific result of the holding.
It is NOT, "the President has immunity." It is, "the President has immunity, if and when we want him to."
The events of the last week, in particular, make this unquestionably the most activist, most power-hungry Court in American history.
Which makes it the least conservative Court in American history.
To the MICHs of the world: calling oneself a Republican doesn't make someone a conservative.

i'll vote for the wastepaperbasket first. the wastepaperbasket has 4.5 more years in it. old uncle don't.
Re: SCOTUS
well, as far as I know, a waste paper basket isn't on the ballot. Though, undoubtedly it may get a million votes or more if it were.

Re: SCOTUS
Fuck the SCOTUS.
Here is a crazy idea. Let's stop letting assholes nominate justices. Let's stop letting assholes vote on the nominations/appointments. Let's stop assholes from serving in/on the Supreme Court.
No, I don't have any better ideas or suggestions.

Re: SCOTUS
A very good first step would be for every network and newspaper left of Fox to treat this as the crossing of the Rubicon - this, finally, is what justifies coverage that is oriented toward the stakes, not the odds, which means no more double standards. Trumpism represents the gravest threat to our democracy in at LEAST generations, and it is time we stopped pretending otherwise.RainbowsandUnicorns wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 5:08 pm Fuck the SCOTUS.

That would be somewhat dishonest: the line was crossed quite some time ago.
But it's better late than never, and democracy can die in the goddamn daylight just as easily as it can under cover of darkness.
Re: SCOTUS
So if Biden were to determine via consultation with DOJ and the DNI that trumpty plumpty and a few SC justices and a few Senators were a threat to democracy and send in SEAL Team Six, that seems like official biness.

Re: SCOTUS
But that's exactly the trap door: the Court did NOT say that all presidents have immunity for any particular list of acts. Biden does that, and he ends up in Gitmo. Thomas will take him to the airport in a nice RV, and Alito will put him on private jet.
The Court conferred upon ITSELF the sole power to determine whether acts are or are not immune. Just as the Court conferred upon ITSELF the sole power to determine whether executive agency acts are or are not permissible.
Every. Single. Conservative. Should. Be. Howling.
Re: SCOTUS
But under my scenario Thomas, Roberts and Alito are gone and have no say in this. The newly appointed SC might see it Biden's way.
