Gutter's 3 questions for the first day of July 2024

Post by RainbowsandUnicorns »

1. Out of all the months of the year, ranking them 1 to 12, 1 being the best and 12 being the worst, where do you rank July?

2. Starting July 15th, for 365 days you have to choose one of the following jobs, and you will get paid 1 million dollars (before taxes) to do it (NO BENEFITS - other than your 1 million dollar salary), and you have to live in the city where the job is located, and you have a PAID $5,000 a month apartment of your choice to live in, and you have to work 5 days a week (you can chose the days of the week) 10 hours a day, which do you chose?
a. Travel coordinator for the Detroit (Michigan) Pistons Basketball team. You do NOT get to travel with the team but you can attend 5 home games against Portland, Washington, Toronto, Chicago, and Utah, sitting in mediocre (not bad - not great) seats.
b. City of Chicago (Illinois) double decker bus tour guide.
c. Uber Driver in the Houston (Texas) metro area.
d. Mens Shoe salesman at Neiman Marcus in Tampa (Florida).
e. Flight attendant for Spirt Airlines - you are based in Columbus (Ohio).
f. Receptionist for a Dentist office in Birmingham (Alabama).
g. Cashier/order taker at McDonalds in Box Elder (South Dakota).

3. You have to read one of the following books in its entirety between today and next Monday. Which do you choose?

a. The Storyteller - Dave Grohl
b. The Demon of Unrest - Erik Larson
c. Camino Ghosts - John Grisham
d. The Situation Room - George Stephanopoulos
e. Trust - Hernan Diaz
f. One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish - Dr. Seuss
g. Money Ball - Michael Lewis

1. 3rd or 4th

2. A, but that's way too much work for me. Don't need that much money.

3. F. Lots of golf planned this week. That's the only one I could finish.

1. 3
2. All those choices suck for one reason or another. I didn't mention anything about vacation time so if I was stuck in those cities and the surrounding area 365 days a year, that might have a bearing. As much as I dislike living in Chicago 6 months a year, I would still probably opt for Chicago being that the job is the most interesting and probably least stressful to me.
3. I would probably choose the Grisham book because I read the Grohl book, and I feel next to the Seuss book, it would be the "lightest" and a decent diversion.

1. Maybe 9th. Too damn hot and the sports mostly suck
2. G. There is no place in Box Elder, SD that could possibly cost $5k a month so I will take that extra cash and pocket that. Heck, the most expensive home for sale there is $400k. Tack on that there is nothing I could possibly spend all that money on there for the year and I will come out of that experience with a nice chunk of change.
3. F, something short so I can plan what to do with my million bucks!

#2 Is not a bad choice. I did say being an order taker/cashier and not being a cook/cleaner/whatever else. That's a pretty cake job in Box Elder compared to in a shitty city with shitty customers. Only thing is I think I might go nuts being inside 10 hours a day 5 days a week at a McDonalds - and I would probably gain about 50 pounds in the year - and I might worry about my health care.
They might charge you $5000 a month to rent this place for a year.

Seems Box Elder would be a peaceful place to be situated. The question then becomes would I be too bored?

one of my grandfather's favorite sayings was "if you're bored, your boring".

The older I get the more truth that holds. There is always something to do or something needs doing.

Yeah, it was "only boring people get bored" in my house but same concept. My kids know not to complain about being bored around me because I am always more than willing to find them some unpleasant chores to do that they will not enjoy.

July may be lower than my initial rating upon further thought

September
October
November
April
December
May
March
August
June
July
January
February

I like January and February though...plus that's trapping season and basketball season.

tough, I could probably rank them 5 different times ans get 5 different answers

Sorry this is a late response. Again, I have not looked at the other responses.

1. 3rd. July is pretty dang great

2. So many fine choices here. I was immediately drawn to the idea of the Chicago tour guide as that just sounded like it would be endlessly enjoyable in a town with endless enjoyment. New people everyday. Four seasons. Sounds great. However, there is opportunity lost in Chicago. I had to consult a map for Box Elder, SD. Dang, that would be a nice location. Again, I think dealing with tourists would be a fine 365-stint in life, and in between Badlands NP and the Black Hills and not too far from Devils Tower sounds coool (cold in winter LOL). McDonald's would suck, but people gotta eat, and I would enjoy the kind of people that choose these locations for trips. However, my final answer is flight attendant based in Ohio. There is nothing at all about being a flight attendant or OH that attracts me, but this is an election year, and I want my vote to count for something. Senator Sherrod Brown (D) needs my vote in OH.

3. One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish - Dr. Seuss. It is short.

#2 - A well thought out and unselfish response.
That's something that I have trouble understanding when it comes to voting rights. Residency.
Indeed I said you would live in the town and state (in this case - Columbus Ohio) for 365 days, so I suppose you would be considered a resident, but could you claim residency in another state if you declare that your residency in Columbus Ohio is temporary and that you still keep/own a home that you consider to be your primary residence in another state?

#3 - Also, a well thought out response. ;)
