I'll preface my response by saying I'm extremely confident I am a worse Jew than he is, and in many ways he's a very good Jew, but in some way's he's a "crappy Jew".
I'll add, these aren't reasons why I feel he's a crappy Jew. Frankly, the things I will mention don't really matter to me at all, but they do matter to other Jews - who would say he's a "crappy Jew" because of them.

A. He's a reform Jew.
B. Married a non-Jew who I don't believe converted.
C. Married a another non-Jew who definitely did not convert.
D. Didn't raise his kids Jewish, his Daughter doesn't "identify" as being Jewish, says religion was not a part of her life growing up.

edit: thinking about this more, i think i have more respect for him because of all those things…at face value, they indicate open-mindedness and likely an ability to compromise

My workless 2 cents.....
I am "anti" divorce. You take a vow and swear in front of "God" and your friends and family members, in sickness and in health, to death due us part. BUT......I am also "anti" unhappiness that causes unhappiness for others due to a married couple being unhappy.
On to Doug and my feelings reading my 4 examples....

a. A reform Jew is a Jew. I am not a fan of "hardcore Judaism". The irony is, I find some/much of the "hardcore" Jewish "teachings" to be IMMORAL in today's society.
b. Marry whoever makes you happy. As I said to my mother (and other people) more than once, I would much rather marry a Gentile and be happy than a Jew and be unhappy. SEEMS maybe Dougie Fresh and/or his first wife Kerstein (sp?) weren't so happy after they got married - but they seem to get along and are at least somewhat respectful to one another since their divorce.
c. See b minus the divorce. I doubt their marriage is perfect but they seem to truly love each other.
d. That's a tough one. Children of Jews being raised Jewish is very important for Judaism to survive. I have a cousin who is my age and on his 4th wife. His first 3 wives were NOT Jewish. He has a daughter with his 3rd wife. The daughter is being raised both Jewish and non-Jewish - but neither hardcore. I know people who have a problem with that. I think it's fantastic. Let HER decide what is the BEST parts of her and who and what she wants to identify as, and then let her follow the teachings of whatever religion/s she chooses, and leave the shit parts that she feels make her a worse person. That's my sincere hope for her.

Moving back to Trumpty Plumpty.
Last night I went to the Nike Store and spoke with a Black guy (in his young 20s) I know who works there. He said, You're here late. It was late for me (typically I walk in around 5:15 - last night it was about 6:45) and I explained why - and it had to do with Trump being in Chicago tomorrow (now today - Wednesday).
He told me his girlfriend is a Black journalist and is supposed to speak tomorrow (now today) at the convention but she was told she's probably either going to get bumped or have to speak in front of Trump. He said she kept calling him "The President" when she was telling him about it.
I asked if she was a fan of Trump and he said, "Fuck no".
Point of my sharing that is....
Seems a lot of people involved in the event are not happy Trump is attending the event today. Of course he is using it as a prop but this is what interests me the most about him speaking at the event - how spineless will the Black Journalists be - or how much will they speak up for themselves and what they truly believe in.
Fine line between respect for others (Trump) and respect for yourself.

My daughter just rolled into Chicago. When she got off the EL coming from the airport she realized her hotel is across the street from the NABJ convention. I will be interested to hear her take on today's "festivities".

She will be working backstage at Lollapalooza.
