I had forgotten what a great political speech sounded like. The Obamas crushed it.

Emhoff shined as well in a more real person sorta way.

I watched on NPR. They had a group of journalists who were commenting on the speeches afterwards. There was a guy on from the Washington Post, he broke down in tears when he was talking about Michelle Obama's speech. No professional breaking down the message, it obviously struck him personally in a very strong way. Annie walked in during Emhoff's speech. She was playing with her phone. When Michelle spoke she stopped and listened and started crying as well. It was fucking glorious.

One of the commentators broke it down this way. The trumpty/Vance speeches told us that America is blood and soil. The Obama speeches told us that America is an idea, a belief in freedom, equality and community.

The contrast could not be any more stark. Throw out everything else, this is the choice voters have before them.

I turned on FOX just to see what their talking heads had to say. The first commentator said the Obamas hit it out of the park. Their speeches and messages were perfect. I switched channels before the cynics could start talking.

I don't know how the DNC tops last night. Beyonce and Taylor could walk out on Thursday night waving sparklers and singing Freedom and will seem like hollow spectacle compared to what we heard last night.

And Michelle wore a sleeveless dress just for psych.

I gave Michelle Obama a standing ovation in my own house. She was spectacular.

Please oh please let this be the beginning of this nation ridding ourselves of this MAGA nightmare. Nine fucking years of having a firehose of vile, repulsive, hate filled lies blasted at us. Enough already. People don't even know how to interact with each other any more.

Maybe she will be ready next go round.
I genuinely don't believe that she ever will because she just doesn't seem to want to be President. Which I truly respect.
even if she were interested (i doubt it), i too think this ship has probably sailed

Michelle Obama is still just 60 years old. If she wanted to run, she would win easily. They'll hold the ship for her in case she changes her mind.

To be fair, maybe I need to start hanging out with ANYONE. I think I am going to start going into the office a day or two a week soon. Went in yesterday for a few hours to do some key encryption work and it was nice to interact with a few coworkers I haven't seen in person in a few years.

She gave up 8 years plus of her life already to politics. I texted DC last night, he says she is "REALLY top notch". President is almost beneath her skill set. She should be the Queen of the United States. She should just appear on every TV channel once a month to give a speech to tell us why our country is revered around the globe and to get our collective shit together.

DO SOMETHING!

Fuck Yeah! Michelle Obama!

Mrs. Fish and I turned to Fox News immediately after Barack Hussein Obama finished speaking, just to get a taste of what the rubes are seeing. The show (Gutfield!) was so bizarre and off-key and strange that Mrs. Fish genuinely thought it was an SNL skit.

I watched about a minute of that. Mostly terrible jokes about appearances and not one word about substance. They all thought they were funny though.

I was honestly dumbfounded.

That is what supposedly-serious people are seeing if they simply cannot bring themselves to give clicks or views to other outlets?

I understand that when you settle a lawsuit for close to a billion dollars because you cannot stop airing lies, you almost necessarily must resort to hiding behind something that no reasonable person could possibly mistake for truth, but my god.

We started a Saturday coffee group a few years before covid. It was mostly artists, everyone was encouraged to bring in things they were working on and tell us about it and then get feedback. There are a couple of art gallery owners/curators who came and added professional feedback. During covid we moved the frequency to weekly. The gathering is either outdoors on the roof deck of my office, or in our conference room which can easily hold 25 people. We go to our various favorite coffee shops for our favorite pastries, it's BYOC, and then convene at my office. The numbers vary every week. When I am out of town on a Saturday, someone else picks a coffee shop and invites everyone to meet. Even if no one brings anything to share, it is a diverse group and there is lots to talk about. Group projects get born from the conversations. New people get brought in every month for so. Some stick and some don't. It's now something everyone seems to look forward to.

Make up your own conversation group. Pick a location/date/time and be there every week. Send the group a text the night before the meet up to remind them "it's tomorrow". There are times when the only people there are Annie, Dok and I. But we keep coming and it is our Saturday morning ritual. Some of our Saturday morning coffee people have become our best friends over the years.

Anyone reading this who is in the KC area (this includes Lawrence, we have a couple of Larryville regulars ) can send me a PM and I will give you directions to this coming Saturday's coffee. You don't have to be an artist, all subjects are welcome conversation.

A speech that I think should be getting more press and praise said this,
“Let’s be serious. Donald Trump and his minions call Kamala a communist. I know communism. I fled communism from Nicaragua when I was 8 years old. I don’t take it lightly,”

“And let me tell you what communist dictators do. And it’s never just for one day. They attack the free press. They call them the enemy of the people like Ortega does in Nicaragua. They put their unqualified relatives in cushy government jobs so they can get rich off their positions like the Castros do in Cuba. And they refuse to accept legitimate elections when they lose and call for violence to stay in power like Maduro is doing right now in Venezuela.”

“Now you tell me something. Do any of those things sound familiar? Is there anybody running for president who reminds you of that?” And I know one thing, it’s not Kamala Harris.”
