Part of a much bigger overall problem in youth sports, which doesn't seem to have a tide-turning on any horizon I can see.

Well, that's part of it.

The other part of it is coming from good genes and having a parent who is an expert in the sport teaching you as you grow up.

I've always figured that an enormous part of Mahomes' success is that he has this awesome combination of pro athlete genetics, and a journeyman-father's work ethic.

I think it's extremely important to not gloss over that his dad and uncle were NOT stars.

They held onto the bottom-of-the-roster spots for their entire careers, meaning THEY did not survive on talent alone. They HAD to be hard workers, good teammates, etc., simply to stay in the show.

And that's what Pat saw first-hand.

Great perspective.

Here is a flip side question. Off the top (or middle or bottom ;) ) of your head, can you think of any athletes that are/were known for not putting in a lot of effort and still being extremely successful?

Other than my recalling Michael Vick saying he was lazy, I can't think of a single one who it was proven was lazy - and still successful - but there has to be a bunch that were. Right?
Sure Iverson had the famous "practice" presser so MAYBE I would include him but I have a feeling he did work pretty hard to become (and work pretty hard to stay) who he was.

Here is where I assume I will get some pushback.
Despite Baseball being a sport where it no doubt takes a lot of skill to play, I feel it's a sport where you can be lazy and still be successful. Especially if you are a Pitcher.

The things that make me go hmmmmm.

Rays are 3 games above .500 with a -43 run differential.
Cardinals are above .500 with a -48 run differential.
Reds are 4 games below .500 with a +35 run differential.

LLWS
Heck of a game going on right now for the USA championship. Texas/Florida. Ridiculous run scored in the bottom of the 5th (passed ball strike 3) to give Texas a 7-5 lead. This one is ova.
Winner plays Taiwan tomorrow.

I noticed that fundamentals weren't great yesterday. As you kind of expect with baseball a second tier sport now. Texas wins with better defense and fundamentals. Pitching falls in there somewhere.

Texas Skipper getting slammed buy some people. Rightfully so? Kid (Pitcher) said he was sore, Skipper leaves him in. Kid leaves the game injured. Texas took the L.

In regards to fundamentals......
Right on cue....
Chinese Taipei/Taiwan/Asia-Pacific comes up with some great fundamentals in the bottom of the 2nd.
USA bases loaded no outs = No runs = JUNK!

The Asian teams play fundamental baseball. Venezuela struggled a little, but considering the tumult there, third place was great.

Irony. Asian team lost because of a fundamental mistake. Were fundamentally great most of the game.

Unfortunately Trump is going to host the Florida team at Mar-a-Lago before Kamala and Joe host them at the White House. I wonder if Trump will refer to the losers as GHINA Tiepie.
