Here’s the flaw in your analogy: I look outside and see gas prices double what they were, food prices out of control, homeless illegals encamped all over the place, but you all keep telling me that I’m not seeing or experiencing those things, that I should trust the people who got us into this situation with four more years.

Do I believe my eyes and my bank account, or do I believe you?

It’s hard to categorize myself as the one out of touch with reality.
Gas has only doubled if you count where it was after Trump let covid ravage the country. From Jan 2020 to last month, the average price of gas where I live went from $2.42 a gallon to $3.26 a gallon. Not quite the "double" you claim.

https://neo.ne.gov/programs/stats/inf/97.htm

So no, I do not believe your eyes because you simply choose to claim to see what you want. It's why eyewitness testimony is so unreliable. I choose facts when they are available.
I decided to try out your reality when I went to fill my pickup at the gas station yesterday. The cashier said I owed $108.33. Since I knew it was my imagination that this was about double what I used to pay to fill it, I determined that I would be a good citizen and set things aright.

I smiled politely and informed her that this is not how we do things here in America's new chapter, that she should be joyful for the opportunity to make my life better by providing me with fuel for my vehicle and grateful that I had unburdened her of what had formerly been in their storage tank, and that not to get on board with the new agenda was racist, misogynistic, and downright ignorant on her part.

She said she'd rather have the $108.33, capitalist, colonialist, racist, misogynist that she is.

There's just no helping some people, I guess.

so dumb
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

don’t you find it odd that the petroleum industry continues to rake in record profits?

also, someone as smart as you should know that it’s disingenuous to compare gas prices now to what they were in the midst of a global pandemic when most everyone’s travel (and this demand) was reduced

did you also not just see the news where the kroger sales head admitted to price gouging?

your insistence on blaming anyone except those directly at fault is exactly why i (and i assume others) ridicule you

but, you do you

i have a tundra…it always costs a shit ton to fill up

it was my choice to buy it, and it’s my choice to keep it. i’m not blaming the gov’t because it’s expensive to own…that’s my fault

my wife and i just started our own business, which is doing so well we just went yesterday a bought a rav4 hybrid…paid cash in full

sounds like you need to reevaluate the decisions you’re making

Congrats! As I’ve said before, I’m doing fine financially, mostly because I have always been someone who chooses to work as much/as hard as I need to in order to have what I want. I’d love to not work 7 days a week at some point, but maybe I’ll learn to get by on joy.

The simple use of the word "joy" is somewhat nauseating to me but I get the strategy. My guess is most people don't. There are multiple facets to it - and it works. Or at least it's working.

Yeah, I don't think you had that conversation. I am sure it sounded witty in your head but you got a little carried away and it landed flatand came off pretty corny and sad. And I would have to buy $40-$50 worth of candy and beer to get my bill up over $100 at a gas station.

I am sure your state has historical averages of average cost per gallon available if you need to actually fact check your own absurd claim.

Well, I drive a 4WD pickup with a 30-gallon tank, so, at $3.59 a gallon, it came out about $108 without candy and beer.

And you have my condolences on living in Nebraska.

It is the 2024 version of "Don't worry, be happy." It could easily be paraphrased as "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain," or "Just ignore it and vote for me because I'm not Trump." Any way you slice it, it is b.s.

Average in Kansas in 2016 was $1.75.

"Regional neighbors Nevada ($2.51), Washington ($2.46) and Alaska ($2.46) round out the top five most expensive markets. Motorists in 34 states are paying averages below $2 per gallon. Missouri ($1.70), Oklahoma ($1.73), Arkansas ($1.74), South Carolina ($1.74) and Kansas ($1.75) are the nation’s least expensive markets for gasoline."
