Gutter's 5 Thoughts and 1 Gutterism for National Situational Awareness Day and the Last Thursday in September 9/26/24

Post by RainbowsandUnicorns »

1. Very appropriate that today is National Situational Awareness Day. In my company, I would consider myself in the lower 10% in regards to intelligence. I would consider myself in the top 10% in regards to situational awareness. I wonder how many other people in this country feel the same way.

2. My senses of taste and smell are still suffering. If I had to choose, I would much rather take that over my eyesight and hearing suffering to the same degrees as my senses of taste and smell - which are currently are slightly more than being non-existent.

3. Sorry folks, I disagree. There IS such a thing as a free lunch.

4. I don't understand why people post their real names, use real photos, and share where they work and/or what they do for a living, on social media, and then purposely continuously post SHIT that they know is extremely divisive.

5. The human body is fascinating to me. Too fascinating. I just read that the average person should have 2.5 billion heartbeats in their lifetime.

Gutterism of the day.....
If I put 6 people in a room, and 3 people tell me they are very cold, and 3 people tell me they are very warm, I say the temperature in the room is just right, and all 6 people can get bent.

1. I'm no special agent...but im.geberally fairly situationally aware. I think partially from years working on big construction sites with cranes and forklifts and pump trucks etc and people doing dangerous things all around that aren't necessarily paying attention to where you are...so you have to know what's happening around you.

on a probably more silly note....I have to sit with my back to a wall and facing the door at restaurants etc. And I almost always figure out where my exits are first thing when I walk in a building. Neither of which I have any real need or reason for it's just the way I am.

2. agreed

3. there is not. There is an illusion of a free lunch.

4. people are desperate attention whores and believe they are much more intelligent and important than they are as a general rule.

5. 1440 minutes per day, 65 beats per min 93,600 beats per day, 34,164,000 beats per year

at 75 years that's 2.52.billion heartbeats

my bpm figure is probably low for the general population and my total years might be a tad high...so I guess it evens out

1. First part. Makes perfect sense. Second part. When I go to a restaurant I prefer to sit at a booth and I like to be near a window. Both probably less safe choices.

2. I figure most people would agree.

3. Sure there is. i.e., I can walk outside and eat dirt for lunch.

4. Yes but it's insane to me. Forgetting yourself, you may be putting co-workers, and friends, and family members, at potential risk - of at least possible harassment.

5. Math is cool. Just blows my mind that your heart beats for a first time and then keeps going and going and going and going and going......... 2.5 billion times.

not free. Costs you time and effort. Also the health problems caused by ingesting dirt and not getting nutrients are a cost. Also, youre not eating something else that you'd prefer, that's an opportunity cost.

nothing is free.

You're not wrong but you are going to get an argument from me. I wasn't specific but I was talking in regards to "monetary" value.
Absolutely I made the mistake of saying dirt instead of soil. Had I said "soil" and not "dirt" - then I feel your argument would lose a lot of value.

I'll use another example.
I am sitting at a table. Someone gives me a sandwich. No cost. I eat it. How is it not a free lunch - for me? Yes, it may have cost them money, and time and effort to get it, but it is/was "free" of cost - for me.

i don't think soil vs dirt changes anything.

there are lots of non monetary things that are "costs"....the majority actually.

Oh, I absolutely feel soil vs dirt changes things. More nutrients in soil than in dirt. Or so I have read.
I agree with you that there is some cost to the majority of things. I drank a cup of ice water this morning. "Cost" ME nothing "monetarily". But it did cost me a minute of my time to go get it, a few seconds of my time to wipe up the ring of condensation on my desk, probably some wear and tear on my body and my shoes, etc., etc., etc.

regardless you're not surviving on soil...humans aren't able to extract sufficient nutrients whether it's soil or dirt.

Oh, you would be surprised what I can/do/and have survived on. The fact that I am still alive is without question a medical miracle.
As far as the soil, it's just 1 free lunch. Who knows? I might get some nice mouse feces, dog urine, maggots, pesticides, lead, and other yum yum nutritional things in my mouthful. Almost makes me want to go out and eat a half pound of soil right now.
