I would say you call more plays to get the ball out of JD's hands quickly. Seems like he's more focused on pressure coming instead of scanning the field and reading the defense. Some of this is due to an O-line that is not doing a good job of pass protection.

Having said all that, it seems like Daniels did a much better job of reading defense and going through his progressions 2 years ago.

Put your quarterback in situations where his reads are easier and his receivers have more open space.

Here we go freaking Illni going to play AK and Penn ST Saturday night. I'll bet money right now that Penn ST doesn't run one stupid WR bubble screen all game. That freaking play is the bane of our offense.

Honestly, what good is keeping him at this point?

Yes, the D has choked late in games, but do something to demonstrate this isn't ok.

I say again: Grimes’s firing and Daniels’ benching should both be announced first thing Monday morning. This season is effectively over. Make a statement about what this program is going to be about moving forward. Dumbasses and losers are not welcome.

Grimes absolutely may have been a bad hire, but you can't fire him now, with no plan to replace him with someone better. This isn't Bama or Georgia where they get their pick of the litter for coordinators. It'll make hiring the next guy that much harder.

I seems Leipold caught lightening in a bottle with Kotelnicki, plus they had been together for many years. Truth is, I think we'll be stuck with Grimes next year as well.

Borland's numbers on defense both here and at Buffalo don't impress. Our success the last couple of years has been based on outscoring the other team in a shoot-out. Not able to do that this year.

I say fire him, and either Leipold calls the plays or the former OC's second in command gets a field promotion for the year while a search for a competent replacement for next year begins. A message must be sent to shake off the complacency. Sending Grimey packing and sitting Daniels' ass on the bench are a good start.

1. It's a drop in the bucket but I'm pretty sure KU would have to pay him the two million owed to him if he's fired.
2. Sorry, I don't understand/know who the "former OC's second in command" is and what a "field promotion" means - other than maybe that person can/would be on the field for the game? Can/will you please elaborate?
3. The message of firing the OC might "shake off the complacency" but I feel part of that "complacency" has to lie/lay on the HC as much if not more than the OC.
4. While I wouldn't have a problem with "Sending Grimey packing and sitting Daniels' ass on the bench", it would be a "good start" to what? Giving up on the season - and the rest of the guys who are Seniors saying fuck this, I'm not going to risk injury for this shit - and walking away?

I don’t think there is any complacency. That’s silly.

There is bad play calling though, and a stark drop off with essentially the same talent, in a vacuum.

The season is over. They will not win another game, with the possible exception of Houston. If the Seniors don't give a crap - and it often looks that way - then they should walk away and make room for the future.

Stay tuned.....
My guess is most if not all who are playing - stick around. We shall see. Kind of a damned if they do damned if they don't situation.

Hope so. Also hope he gets a swift kick in the ass on the way out the door.

I'm not going to say zero chance but I am going to say I doubt it. Does it really matter one way or the other at this point?

P.S. If Grimes is canned, Daniels should help him pack his bags and drive him to the airport. He has played a substantial role in contributing to it.

Look after last year we were on such an upward trajectory that this is going to cause ramifications.

There is no way to explain this years performance. There is a lot riding on the success of this football team.

However you want to look at it and whoever you want to blame the future went from very bright to I really do not see us getting out of this.

Daniels will probably pass on that offer. But don’t worry, a competitor will be quick to catch it and get Grimes to the the airport.
