Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: Big tech political thread
Since X is actually censoring actual news. Unprompted. I know Randy will apologize and show himself out
Re: Big tech political thread
If one adopts the rubes' expansive definition of "censorship," then one must necessarily agree that promoting favored information is "censorship" just as much as is suppressing unfavored information.

Zuckerberg is apparently trying to fix his mistakes. He is now a self proclaimed "libertarian ideologist" and has even gone as far as to hire a republican strategist to repair his relationship with right wing media. He's openly confessed he was pressured by the intelligence agencies to censor right wing views

here’s a novel idea: don’t get your news from social media

The best (?) part is how randall here, well, let's edit for clarity as to one specific point:KUTradition wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2024 12:34 pm here’s a novel idea: don’t get your news from social media
I certainly now understand, better, what these "mistakes" are.Zuckerberg is apparently trying to fix his mistakes. He [...] has even gone as far as to hire a republican strategist to repair his relationship with right wing media.

You're close but your prejudice is preventing you from getting all the way there. The intelligence community doesn't want to control people. They want to control what information criminals and bad acting foreign agents, including governments, are able to flow through to regular American citizens and they want a portal into those platforms to monitor the information that flows through them in real time so that they can investigate quicker.randylahey wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 9:06 pm Never thought I'd say this but, I actually feel bad for Zuckerberg and his people, as well as the other social media big wigs. Law enforcement and the intelligence networks out there have always been a bit hamstrung by having to not blatantly trample on people's rights to privacy. The GOP was smart enough to take advantage of 9/11 to get the Patriot Act passed, which gave intelligence groups unprecedented access to our phone, text and internet data that we previously had buffered from them in the name of our civil rights.

The is RFK Jr. making claims with no supporting evidence. If he provides supporting evidence then I'd read it. I doubt he pulled that "37 hours" number out of his ass.randylahey wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 9:06 pm Never thought I'd say this but, I actually feel bad for Zuckerberg and his people, as well as the other social media big wigs. In my opinion, Obama did a lot of things right but one of the major things he did wrong was not fighting for Americans right to privacy in the interest of cybersecurity -- instead, he amplified the powers that the government has to spy on their citizens.

Must pass the Musk smell test to be free speech. His scent is on everything over there
Re: Big tech political thread
Mr. Free Speech Absolutism here is showing it’s about party, not principle.
Kerry isn’t saying anything here that Elon should find objectionable - in fact Elon should recognize that Kerry’s statement is very much pro-free-speech.
But because this is about party not principles for Elon, he made an incorrect conclusion about the message because he dislikes the messenger.

Funny. Elon runs a company that has never turned a profit…and could not exist without massive subsidies.
